Great looking pub, perfect for a meal, after our walk around the Castle opposite. We were able to get seating outside in the beautiful sun shine. There is a field adjacent for the kids and dogs to be entertained in while the drinks and food is being prepared and cooked. We enjoyed the burgers, Sunday roast, soup of the day and fish and chips. All very tasty and nice generous portions. As you walk into pub, the bar is straight ahead, you can't miss it. The toilets are to the left and well kept. The only let down was the person smoking around the tables, no need as there is a designated seated smoking area just up from all the tables. Also if they want to be dog friendly, there needs to be easy access to water, the only thing I saw was a pot bought out with sparkling water in it.

Well, on the face of it a lovely little British pub on the side of a small country road. Where as in fact it’s an often very busy pub at weekends mainly due to the castle opposite and the waterway & camping nearby! We’ve stayed locally twice now and each time we do the walks, the castle and end up at the pub! The last time we also had food, both opted for the burgers which were ok-good or 6/10. The staff always seem busy but probably down to a shortage, I bet it’s hard to recruit around these parts at the moment. It’s got a very British feel to it, so makes it a nice place to hang out in the sunshine for a refreshing pint.

After walking around Bodiam castle , we popped over to Castle Inn pub for lunch . We visited on a tuesday in Nov and it was quiet empty . The lady behind the bar was very welcoming and friendly . Service was great . Food was hot , fresh and came really quickly . I had cider batter fish and chips and my husband had steak sandwich ( which had blue cheese too 🤤 ) with a side of katsu curry chips . Both our chips were really tasty and like dipper shape . A great big garden and terrace outside , which I'm sure would be lovely in finer weather . We had our dog with us and she was welcomed in , so a very dog 🐕 friendly pub .

Lovely location, but the food and service really let this place down. I’ve been here a few times over the years and not one time was particularly positive.

Food - really crap vegetarian menu options, the falafels are drier than the dessert sand. Our large party for dinner were all a bit “meh” about the food, felt like low quality food ordered from Brakes wholesaler. In their defense, the food came out quickly, although my meal had been forgotten and I had to wait an extra 10 mins for mine to be made (no apology from the waitress for this).

Service - some bar staff are really lovely, but there is one who is mega grumpy. We had eaten our mains, plates taken away, about 2 hours into our booking and then we were approached by someone, and asked if it was all okay and if we needed anything else. I had similar experiences before on other visits with grumpy bar staff (not sure if it’s the same one!).

Sadly, after a couple of negative experiences, I wouldn’t return which is a massive shame. Perhaps each time I’ve caught them at an odd time, as the other reviews are...

Outstanding! You know how they say you should underpromise and overdeliver? These fine people did exactly that. We were there I guess towards the end of the lunch rush and the staff unanimously told us that we would have to wait for everything. However, I overheard the folk who were just leaving saying that the food was excellent, and how right they were. The menu benefited from having been kept simple. We ordered our drinks and a kids cheeseburger and a bacon mushroom and gruyere cheese melt, and prepared to wait. The drinks came first but the food was there seconds later, and it was fabulous. Fresh bread, real mushrooms, bacon just so, a very generous baby lettuce/spinach and watercress salad with a light dressing involving mustardseed and...well, let's just say I normally tolerate coleslaw for nutritional reasons but this had obviously been made fresh from scratch, probably on the day. In short, it's not often that you get more than you paid for nowadays, but that was my...

Beautiful cosy little pub, awesome location and great service. We had sunday roast here with my mother after visiting Bodiam castle a few weeks ago. The food was oudstanding! Everything was perfectly done, the roast potatoes were crispy, the vegetables were crunchy - not overcooked!! The meats were perfectly cooked. The coliflower side dish was really nice too. I’m a very fussy eater and a food critic, but i could not fault the food in this place. The portions are not on the shy side either, you won’t leave this place hungry. I can confidently say this was the best roast i ever had… The desserts were amazing too, we had apple crumble and chocolate brownie both were absolutely delicious. The kitchen and chef deserves appreciation. I’m looking forward to visit again and enjoy the amazing food! Highly...
