This comes up on Googlemaps as a 5 star hotel, which I don’t think it is, but I would give it 5 stars for value for money.
We booked directly through the George Inn website and, with a promotion they were running, got a premium double for £99. There was plenty of space, tea and coffee, comfortable bed and decent bathroom. A bottle of water would have been a nice addition. The WiFi didn’t work in the room, only downstairs.
If you want to have dinner in the village, there’s only a couple of options so you need to book in advance. We eat at the George and the servers were attentive and friendly. The food was good but the chef had tried to be inventive without adding much to the dish. Samphire doesn’t need prawns when served with fish and chips and halloumi didn't work in the frittata (carrot in bubble and squeak was unexpected). Overall we enjoyed the meal.
Breakfast was excellent with a good selection.
All the staff were really good and we received a lovely welcome when we arrived. The pub was popular with a nice atmosphere. Overall a great place for an...
Read moreMy friend and I dined here on Friday 24th September. Whilst the welcome and service was good, I am sorry to say we were both incredibly disappointed with every aspect of our meal. The steak which was highly recommended was brutally over cooked from the medium rare requested. It was also very small for the price charged! The pork belly was also overcooked and rather dry. The roasted vegetables was basically undercooked onion. The crumble we had for desert was probably the worst I have ever had and simply not restaurant quality. This was a great shame as we had heard good reviews and decided to treat ourselves as we don't have the opportunity to eat out very often.
We initially decided not to put a negative review on social media as we thought it fairer to let them know directly our views. As this was not even acknowledged we thought it appropriate to share our experience more widely.
It may just be that we caught the kitchen on a bad night but sadly we will not be recommending you to family...
Read moreWe spent four nights at the George during the Easter period and it was very pleasant and convenient for exploring a number of places (mainly pubs and gardens !) in East Sussex, which we haven't visited before.||They helpfully suggested we spent Tue-Fri nights as they don't serve meals on Mondays. We found out quickly that this is a popular place for locals to eat and the Friday evening was busy with customers there either to eat or meet for a drink. There was no lack of custom during the week either.||We made a fixed price deal for four nights and also ate in on two of the nights as the menu is wide, suiting both veggie and omnivore tastes. Breakfast was also part of the deal.||Service was excellent. The room was good although (as so often) we could have done with two chairs rather than one, and the lighting was poor for reading. ||Everyone was friendly and helpful with suggestions for places to visit and eat. There's a...
