Rose & Crown — Restaurant in Rother

This pub has been a regular visit for myself and 12 year old daughter for the last four years however we hadn't been here for a few months during which time it would seem that management had changed. Let's start with service. It was somewhat slower than it used to be and there seemed to be less staff to do the work. One young lady was doing the serving and clearing of tables and understandably she didn't seem happy! The nice friendly conversation that we used to have was gone with the server managing only a curt "enjoy your meal" I don't think she meant it. When trying to order I was ignored for several minutes as the lady behind the bar prefured to chat to some of her buddies at the other end of the bar. Having said that when she did serve me she was very pleasant. Now onto the food and Its not what it used to be! Portions have gotten smaller with my steak being a third smaller and a fatty cut however it was all very nicely cooked. As per my last review some months ago the buildings are still very run down with no investment at all. The toilets are rank Get in and out quick!!! Generally the decor is very poor inside and out but especially inside. The atmosphere was calm but less people than used to be in here. I am doughtful that I would return which is a shame because I used to enjoy my once weekly visit there with my daughter.

Update is that did an upgrade of the premises 100% better thanks for listening Powers to be. Have started visiting again and a nice menu pay them a visit you won't be...

Having frequented various pubs across different towns, I can confidently say that this establishment has become my local favorite. The experience has only improved since the new ownership took over, moving away from the Green King brand. Here, the focus is not solely on profit but rather on delivering quality service and products.

The staff members are exceptionally friendly, creating an atmosphere where patrons can feel comfortable and engage in light-hearted banter, all while maintaining a professional demeanor.

The food is reasonably priced and consistently delicious, making it a great choice for a satisfying meal.

The pub itself is spacious, offering a variety of entertainment options such as quizzes, live music, and dart teams that regularly gather for play.

One of the standout features is the expansive garden area, which is beautifully maintained. Even during winter, the garden remains inviting thanks to heat lamps, allowing guests to enjoy the outdoors comfortably, even in colder weather.

A brilliant place to take the family. Food was very good and Priced reasonably. The staff are very polite and happy to help. Highly recommend.

I’ve had to edit this as I revisited last week on a Thursday After they’ve had it refurbished. It wasn’t busy with a few reservations on two or three tables. What a shame The menu to start with is just boring and I don’t know who thought that colour for a menu in a pub restaurant would have been a good idea. It hasn’t been reopened for long yet the menu was filthy not just because it hasn’t been wiped over its very badly constructed and choice of colours. The food wasn’t bad but wasn’t good but would have to give it a massive 0 because the Wife finding a hair in her burger just not acceptable. I’m the type of person to believe it’s most likely her hair, but when she Went to pick it up to show me it. It clearly come from the burger and pulled some of the filling out as she was pulling on the hair. I believe this place to be a lovely family friendly pub and restaurant but not now.
