No open mic at the Sitwell Arms Whiston any more.... Apparently it didn't make enough money...
I asked Adam if the pub was having any live music or events and the answer was no! I asked what the pubs USP, (unique selling point) the answer is, it has just been refurbished and they are going to offer better service then anyone else.... Hmm... All pubs offer good or decent service or you wouldn't go there.
One of my favorite venues is the Olive Lounge... but even they must admit to some service issues on a busy Friday or Saturday night... it's not really an issue, we simply wait 5 minutes and watch bar craft.. I really can't see how a pub can try to sell itself on service alone.
To be honest on the twice I have eaten at the Sitwell I didn't rate it..
So lets look at the Olive lounge, it is in a busy popular vibrant area with lots passing custom and looks fantastic.. Yet they are on Facebook nearly everyday promoting their business and they have a wide range of events...
Not only are they out to make money, they are serving the public... Good on them.
Sitwell Arms... has very little passing trade apart from a few locals, other than that customers have to drive there.
Now they may consider their food to be brilliant (how are we to know - Adam says so), and believe me I have eaten some fantastic food in some fantastic restaurants.
But how are they going to tell me about this?
I thought the whole idea of a pub and or restaurant was to serve the public and if they are not going to offer me a service that I want in the first place and I have no reason to walk past the building, then how are you going to tempt me in?
Sitwell Arms, Take a leaf out of the Olive Lounges book, service your community and the profit will take care of itself.
All you have really served to do is split up a group of friends and musicians who used to enjoy each others company for a few hours once a week.... All I can say is shame on you!!
Finally I have no affiliation with the Olive Lounge... Truth is at one point I wanted to buy it..... However they have done a much better job than I...
Read moreJust had a meal here, must say was most surprised to have managed to book a table for 4 as it's normally too busy to get one...more so it being a Bank holiday Monday. Disappointed in 1st place at how long we were waiting to be served at the bar, bar area wasn't at all busy so don't know what the hold-up was.
Sat down to study the menu then ordered at the bar...again a lengthy wait. Ordered 4 meals and wasn't informed that there would be any delay to meals arriving. However after having waited an hour (no exaggeration) one member of the party went to enquire where our meals were, to be told...oh they won't be a moment they're just being plated up! Table next to us who came in after we did received and ate their meal and left before we even got ours.
What an absolute disgrace had we known what was coming we would have cancelled the order and requested a refund. 3 Meals were barely lukewarm 4th one was told to be careful of the dish as it had been sat in oven and very hot! 2 steaks were requested medium but came well done, 1 should have had a sauce but didn't...2 steak knives but no forks! 4th meal was spoiled by the fact that it was cold.
To add insult to injury was charged £2 for a plain soda water for the driver of the party. We've visited here before and been happy with both the service and food...Needless to say that was our last visit. No wonder there wasn't a problem securing a table!
Totally shoddy...
Read moreFawlty Towers revisited! Took son on Sunday evening as a treat for waiting for me in Rotherham A & E but our visit descended into absolute farce. Sat for ages at a table not knowing and not told that orders not taken at table. Finally ordered pizzas and a starter (no attempt to offer us wine) then waited....and waited...and waited! Finally a pleasant young waitress came to tell me there was no egg on the Nicoise as they hadn't any - I said don't worry it'll be ok, and we settled down once more to wait...and wait... and wait. Some of out time spent hunting down cutlery and napkins as none on our table. Pizzas finally arrived, mine burnt - as in totally inedible - all around edges and 3" into pizza. Waitress agreed and said she'd get another, but kindly said "eat unburnt bit in the middle as you've waited a long time". Two minutes later another waitress came over and whisked it away!! Pure farce - you couldn't make it up. Replacement pizza finally arrived over an hour after original order placed, accompanied by the starter!! We asked to see person in charge, who turned out to be the deputy manager. She listened to our complaints patiently but offered absolutely no explanation, especially about the missing egg as there were eggs in the kitchen. It's probably not possible to get things more wrong so I can only suggest you don't eat here on a Sunday evening - unless, that is, you're looking for material to...
