So, after many years of visiting the 3 Magpies, we will be regulars no longer. We went for our usual lunch yesterday, which was not as good as it has been, then when my son joined us after school for tea, he wanted to swap a sauce for his chicken. The bar staff were rushed off their feet and were a staff member down, so I opened the kitchen door to ask the chef. The way that woman spoke to me was appalling. She refused to swap it, even though this has been done many times in the past without a problem, but she flatly refused and was very nasty in her manner and voice. I've never seen this person before but I was informed she's the new kitchen manager! Well she certainly doesn't know how to behave towards regular paying customers! When I told the bar staff about it they said that this was a regular thing with her and as she's the kitchen manager they can't do anything about it. What a disgrace, and a shame, you will be losing many more customers thanks to that horrible woman! I DID NOT ENTER THE I STOOD AT THE DOOR AND SHE WAS IN...
Read moreThis is an updated review. I don't know what's going on at the Three Magpies. It used to be pretty good, but tonight it was appalling. It's not good when you've got a "chef" wandering around in whites that look as though he's just cleaned the drains with them, but then comes the kicker - the actual food. Two of us attempting to dine, I chose hunters chicken, a dish I've had here many times before. This one, the chicken was burnt and overcooked so badly you couldn't cut it with a serrated steak knife, the sauce was lumpy and solid, and then we come to the cheese... Since when has a cheap processed cheese slice been acceptable in hunters chicken? My father had a steak. Another dish we've had many times before here. He left most of it. It was dry, chewy and pretty much inedible. To add insult to injury, the chips were stone cold as well. I strongly recommend that you avoid the Three Magpies until they sort themselves out. We certainly will be. This has been the worst meal I've experienced in a...
Read moreJust had the worst meal at the Three Magpies in about twenty years. Should have been a bit wary when the chef came out to ask the lady behind the bar for a menu. My husband's meal was nothing like it is usually presented but he did say it didn't taste too bad. I had my usual jacket potato with chilli. When it arrived I thought the portion was not as big as normal so opened up the jacket potato and looked at it. There wasn't any trace of meat and there was six beans. The total portion would have fit on a tablespoon. I mentioned to the person who brought our meals and he spoke to the chef who said this was the correct amount. So not only was the portion lacking and there wasn't a trace of beef in the beef chilli con carne but apparently I was lying. Won't be going back again and will be telling everyone I have previously recommended about the experience. I should have taken notice when the lady at the next table said they didn't have any chilli con carne....
