Went to celebrate my Mum's birthday, on the date of her birthday. American themed steakhouse style is nicely decorated and clean. Also, noted some rules at the front of house regarding attire, which seemed fair.
We all really liked how you get a little bag of popcorn at the beginning to start while you wait for your drinks. We were served by Ty, who was very friendly, attentive and took our orders promptly.
However, we suspect Ty went on break because suddenly she was no longer there and we were virtually ignored. I'm not sure if someone covered her section in her absence, but it definitely didn't seem like there was. Our starter plates were not removed prior to mains and were still not removed when we were served our mains (you can see them in the back, next to my purse, of my second picture). We were only three of us, so we had the space to move things around the table, but if we were a group of four, we would've had no room. We also ended up with a ton of glasses as they were also not collected, nor was our water refilled at any point. We felt like we kept having to ask for things and would actively be avoided by staff. For example, we had to collar whoever was in our vicinity to get a second and third round of drinks. We also asked three separate members of staff for takeaway boxes to take our leftover food away before we eventually got our box (Ty returned at this point and promptly resolved our requests), one server in particular was about to take our plates away, offered to get the box (didn't get the box), then disappeared and avoided coming anywhere near us again, in spite of looking in our direction and serving other tables in our section. When Ty returned, the table was cleared entirely and service resumed and we were no longer ignored, but by that point we were about to pay the bill, so.
The food and drinks did come out promptly, and was really tasty. My brother says that Hickory's has the best burgers and sandwiches in Nottingham, and my Mum said her brisket was really tender. My mac and cheese wasn't overly saucy, but very gooey. All meals were presented beautifully too. We also really appreciate the donut for Mum's birthday as we've tried really hard to make this birthday special for my Mum due to personal circumstances.
My brother said service hadn't been like this when he has previously visited. But for my Mum and I, it was our first time visiting, and we were quite let down with the service. Overall, I'd like to go back because the food was really nice, but the service was a...

Read moreFinally! Our first time at Hickory’s after being recommended a millions times by family & friends. Unfortunately, it wasn’t as good as we’d hoped.. Both of us were so looking forward to a bit of brisket as we’d both heard so many things about it but it just didn’t live up to the standards we expected. Whether this was down to it being a Saturday night or because it was rather busy and this was just a one-off then I’m upset it was us that got dealt the short straw. My review still being 4-star is all down to service we were greeted with, the staff are amazing and it was no fault to them about the food! Everyone was so polite and welcoming and the waitress was lovely too. The atmosphere in Hickory’s is brilliant and we loved the style of the place. Everything there made it feel so real, and it was a lovely place to sit. The fries were also bang-on. The Hickory’s BBQ sauce was nice and the Mac & Cheese was good too. The brisket on the other hand just wasn’t it. It seemed overcooked to the point it was dry, which was a shame. Luckily the Bourbon gravy was there to save my day but my wife didn’t like that either so was stuck eating dry meat. With it being our first time eating and trying brisket as I said I hope this is not the way it is supposedly meant to be served. I thought the way that things were cooked in Hickory’s meant that everything would be juicy, and melt-in-the-mouth sort of food and this was not the case. Sadly I wouldn’t go out of my way to return to Hickory’s nor would I add it to my list of places to go out to eat based on our experience (with the...
