I was out for a day on my motorbike exploring places I don't go often. Knowing the long history of Carrbridge's hospitality I had high expectations for the places to eat. I wanted to just get a McDonalds or something on my way back through Inverness. However I decided to see what was around in Carrbridge.

Sadly this was a mistake. I went to Carrbridge Kitchen hoping for a decent bit of food for a decent price. I was shown to a seat by a nice yet shy and young woman at the front not much of a welcome but I am fairly introverted myself so this isn't much of an issue too me. looked through the menu, yeah a decent enough selection can't argue that.

Sadly the food was far below any reasonable expectation, I ordered the Crispy Chicken wrap with salad and chips, costing £14.95 and a can of Coke costing £3.25. Not cheap but also not ridiculous either. My can of coke was brought over promptly by the aforementioned young woman at the front with a glass that had 3 ice cubes in it. This would have been fine if the coke was already icy cold, it was not but still fine enough to drink direct from the can.

But here is where I talk about the food, the food was quick enough about 10 minutes which is perfect. The very first thing that stood out too me was the utter mass of chips on my plate, far to much to eat in one go and just left no room at all on the plate I would say from what was on my plate 60-70% by weight was chips. Then the salad, this was actually very nice, I think it was a mango sauce/salad dressing with fresh veg and seasoning. The wrap however, this was a waste of my time/money and simply ruined the whole visit. I am not much of a fussy eater, but to me. I eat out for high quality ingredients that is what makes the fact the wrap was filled with reformed meat an absolute joke. I imagine the same "Chicken" the kids menu advertises as Goujons... Aside from this cheap and frankly sorry excuse for chicken I was entirely unable to identify anything else in the wrap. Perhaps a cheese sauce, some lettuce? All I know is the oil within spilled out onto my left thumb when I bit into the wrap and was hot enough to make me drop the wrap and jam my finger in my mouth to stop the burning. This... Fluid? I am unsure what it is exactly, some kind of oil. Would continue to flow from each half of the wrap during my time eating.

Overall if you're starving to death and have already considered your first born as the next possible source of sustenance. Just eat the first born. Atleast they don't have the gall to ask for a tip when the interaction between yourself and the staff could be counted in seconds and the words exchanged on my 2 hands.

The only thing that kept this from 1 stars across the board was the decent arrangement of the building itself, a decent salad (by comparison to the rest of it) and that the staff while friendly they seem to be hoping the local wildfires set the building alight so they...

Stopped in to grab a quick coffee and hit the road to Edinburgh. My 10 year old kid and 65 year old mother wanted to eat their prepacked lunch while I ordered and drank my coffee. While not the best practice, I appeased them so we didnt delay our trip. I went inside and ordered coffee for here. The lady at the counter asked again, for here? And I said, yes. Ill have it outside. I went back outside and waited. She came to ask again, do you want the coffee for here. I said yes. I'll drink it here. She said, then you need to come inside and pay. I said absolutely and paid. Instead of bringing me a porcelain cup of coffee as requested, she gave me a paper cup and said here is your coffee to go very clearly implying that I was not welcome at this establishment. She followed that up with you can't sit in the walk way although the table was set up to have 3 chairs at the table. Question is if we were treated this way because a child and grandmother were taking a quick bite or if my melanated skin was the issue - especially considering that dogs were welcome inside at tables, other non melanated folks consumed coffee outside and we paid just like everyone else. Hmmmmm. All in all, the service and treatment were very unwelcoming and not at all pleasant. Only spend your money here if you are looking to be...

Had the baked potato and was really disappointed, not with the filling, that was ok, as you can see from the pictures it was also burnt and totally inedible, disappointed as I was really hungry.. It wasn't white and fluffy like a baked potato normally is, it was yellow and tasted like ones that have been reheated from the day before, also over half of the skin was burnt and totally inedible.. the only reason I ate as much as I did is because I was absolutely ravenous, luckily both the filling and side salad were good, but the potato itself let the whole meal down.. I'd expected better from somewhere like this, as the prices are quite high for a day old reheated badly burnt spud.. and be prepared to pay a lot here too for any meal, most meals&drinks work out at around £15-20 for adults and £10 for kids.. so a family of 4 can easily...

If you have traveled to the highlands and lamented the difficulty in finding a salad or alternatives to the typical Scottish pub menu, I stumbled onto a small local eatery in the tiny village of Carrbridge on our drive through Cairngorms National Park. For sure, they have fish and chips and the classic Scottish standards, but they serve a delightful menu of alternative choices. For example, when was the last time you had sweet red pico [Little] peppers in a salad? The desserts are to die for. My wife is a desert aficionado. She had the millionaire pastry with chocolate dolce de Leche shortbread. She was oohing and aahing with every bite. Owner Charlotte Kennerley was very attentive to making sure we had a great experience. Fabulous place to stop for lunch, snack or cake and tea on your way to or from Cairngorms.

We called in on our way to Hawick from Tain as we needed to break up our journey in the van and to photograph the bridge. The staff were super friendly and helpful and chatty and the cappuccino and mocha was perfect. We ordered food and it arrived at our table and was served with a smile. The food was cooked to perfection. If your in a camper or motorhome park down the road in the carpark and spend a couple of hours around the area as it is a beautiful place with a few shops and great photography opportunities.
