Stayed at Coorie for 2 nights in August 2022. Self check in if arriving after 4.30pm, you are sent a code to enter front door, keys left in allocated room. No staff member on site after 4.30pm until cafĂ© reopens in the morning. ||Initially we were happy with the room, the amenities (albeit a bit limited) and the peaceful location. The ÂŁ5 gift voucher left in the room was also a really nice touch. The room was clean & comfortable as was the bathroom.||I wish I could say that our stay was totally positive but unfortunately there was a serious issue which was very distressing and totally spoiled our visit to the B&B & was a huge negative. ||We stayed in Room 4. The doors have just a doorknob, the key to lock it fits into the middle of the doorknob. When leaving for the day the next morning after arrival my wife had trouble locking the door. Sacha the housekeeper came along & asked if there was a problem, my wife said she could not lock the door. Sacha told her to just leave it open as she was servicing the rooms. My wife asked if she was going to service it at that point but Sacha said she was doing upstairs first. As we had our possessions in the room including an expensive laptop & tablet my wife understandably did not want it left open unattended & said she would rather it be locked until housekeeping was ready to service it & asked if Sacha could show her how the lock worked. They both tried several times & there was obviously a knack whereby you had to sort of pull the knob towards you & give it a half turn or so whilst the key was inserted, not easy to do as even the housekeeper had trouble getting it to lock. Between them they got the lock to work & my wife satisfied herself the door was locked before leaving but it was clear locking the door could be difficult & fiddly even for the staff. Sacha got quite irritated with my wife wanting the door to be locked & said she could not see what the problem was with it being left open, my wife was quite taken aback by that comment & with her abrupt attitude. ||My wife was concerned about Sacha wanting to just leave the room open so she specifically asked Sacha to make sure the door was definitely locked after she made up the room later. Sacha said she would make sure it was locked. We were both extremely annoyed and upset to arrive back at our room around 10pm only to find that the door was unlocked with our possessions totally accessible in the room to anyone who turned the doorknob and had obviously been unlocked all day since the room had been serviced in the morning. I think it is a fundamental expectation in any B&B, hotel room or any other establishment where you are paying to stay to expect a door to be kept locked especially when you have specifically asked Housekeeping to ensure the door is locked when the guest is not occupying it and the guest has ensured the door is locked before they left the building in the presence of a staff member. It also defies the object of being given a key. This is totally unacceptable in any establishment even in a quiet, coastal village.||At check out next morning when paying at the cafĂ©, my wife spoke to Ainslie about the door being left unlocked. After offering a couple of lame excuses for the reason the door was left open she said she understood our concerns and suggested we contact the owner Yasmine to alert her to the situation. My wife asked if she could use the ÂŁ5 voucher to buy two pastries for our journey & Ainslie said she would take the voucher & not charge her the extra due for the pastries which begs the question how expensive could a pain au chocolat & a pain au raisin be? there were no prices on them so they were clearly very expensive pastries if the voucher didnât cover the whole cost.||We did contact the owner by email and whilst she apologised we were extremely disappointed with what I felt was a blasĂ© attitude regarding the security issue & she offered a poor excuse that the âloyalâ housekeeper of 10 years had made a mistake or misunderstood my wife. I donât think this is the first time the doors have been left open as it is too much trouble to lock them. What housekeeper who has worked somewhere for 10 years would think it acceptable to leave a guestâs door open all day when the B&B is unattended most of the day & night especially when she has been asked politely to ensure the door is locked after servicing?. It was very stressful to return to find the door open with all our possessions totally unsecured and donât think it unreasonable to be extremely upset about it. We have never stayed anywhere in the world where our room door has been left open after it has been serviced. We were relieved to find nothing had been disturbed but it could have been much worse. As quiet & peaceful as Limekilns is it still cannot be taken for granted that a room left unlocked in a B&B will be safe. ||So if you do stay here please be aware security could be...
Read moreAfter my recent stay at the property known locally as the Coorie Inn (more like the coin it in) I thought I would share my experiences.||Lets do the positives first.||The Corrie is in a great location with in spitting distance of the sea front and if you are lucky enough to get one of the correct rooms, youâll have a gorgeous view of the water, get the wrong room however, and itâs some bins plus the noise of the kitchen extractor fan for a mere 9 and a half hours a day..||The staff at the Coorie are all lovely, welcoming and canât do enough for you which makes staying there a total pleasure.|| The menu is extensive and provides for all tastes and when ordered the food always arrives brilliantly prepared and within a decent spell of time.||Despite a couple of issues with shower temperature, the rooms are actually very welcoming having been newly redesigned with everything you will need from a huge spacious bed to a good sized smart TV on the wall.||There is a serviceable hair drier, plus best of all the daily replenishment of the lovely Tunnockâs caramel wafers! đ||Now on to the downside.||Lovely though this property is, I think for the price point the use of the word hotel is generous at best, really operating more like a glorified B and B.||The cafĂ© which is the heart of the hotel is open from 8AM till 5 PM aprox, though they really would rather not take any orders especially from residents after about 4:15.||The food in the cafĂ© although lovely is quite expensive, with breakfast for an average family of 4 coming in between ÂŁ40 or ÂŁ50 pounds unless everyone just wants toast obviously.||The real issue is that the cafĂ© shuts at 5PM. Basically after this point the hotel has nothing to offer you outside of what your own room contains meaning you absolutely have to go out for food, drinks etc.||This is not a huge problem until you get to a Sunday where the local pubs are closed for food, and if you happen to be with out a car or donât want to drive you are rather stuck.||Now this wouldnât be a problem if the Coorie had a lounge area to sit in and get a takeaway, but this was removed some years ago so there is nowhere for occupants to sit other than your own room.||Not a problem you say, well that would be correct if the rooms actually had chairs to sit in, however this is another thing lacking in the hotel, meaning once your day is done, you have the option of sitting on the rooms single desk stool, or just flopping on the bed waiting till morning.||Another feature lacking is a small room fridge which has also been removed since the refit.||Basically when you have a hotel where you canât get a cold drink, not even from a machine after 5PM, it would have been nice to have a way of keeping something in the room however this was not possible.||Really my conclusion is this, the Coorie is first and foremost a quality cafĂ©, the residential part being a financial necessary evil and coming very much second best in the thought process of the owners.||As a B and B to be used as simply a base to come back too after a full and active day, then yes brilliant.||Hotel though? Really not I am afraid.||If you do visit, please do go and eat in the Bruce arms a quick minuteâs walk away from the Coorie.||I would book as it gets busy and for good reason, with michelle and team service up good pub grub from just ÂŁ9 itâs a great option for any...
