Rather disappointing. The place was very busy so happy to wait for our starter until we saw some people hating theirs within 5 minutes of arrival whereas we had been waiting for nearly 50 minutes. It seems we had been forgotten. My tomato and bean cassoulet was rather lacking in beans (I think I found 5 in total). It was literally tomato soup with a very few beans. A very nice soup but not a cassoulet. The rest of the meal was fine but the bill more accurately described the cassoulet as soup. I was less impressed to be invited to add a tip when perhaps they could at least have offered us free coffees by way of apology. A rather overpriced meal and poor service.
In view of the response I am adding further comments because leaving the last comment to the restaurant gives a misleading impression. First of all it has not been disputed that we waited a very long time for our starters whilst other diners who arrived long after us were receiving their starters within 5/10 minutes. Attentive staff would have seen we had waited a long time and would have taken action of their own accord. Yes we did comment after every course because we were invited to comment. I made a negative comment about the ‘cassoulet’ which is supposed to be a hearty course, a few beans in tomato soup is not a ‘cassoulet’ by any means. The comments made after the other courses were expressions of appreciation, especially after the desert. I do usually tip after good service and a good meal but overall the meal was disappointing and being actually invited to tip made it clear that the staff were not putting themselves in the place of the customer. I left abruptly to avoid expressing my true feelings. There may well always be one, but you should not expect unqualified praise when it is not due. I am sorry if the waitress was upset but I was the paying customer and I was upset at waiting so long for our starters and being served a misleading’cassaulet’. I can understand why you want to defend your establishment but sometimes you need to recognise that there are deficiencies and act accordingly. ASI said an offer of free coffees would have cost you very little and gone a long way to establishing goodwill. It is not so much that things go wrong, it is how you...
Read moreStumbled across this absolute gem of a place when driving the NC500 with my Aussie friend. Both of us, me having lived and travelled Scotland all my life and him only having this road trip as his Scottish experience so far, both confidently said this was the absolute best place we’ve eaten on this journey by a landslide. This could also have been one of my favourite venues I’ve ever eaten myself, period.
The service from the start was absolutely fantastic and despite it being busy and us being two strangers walk in, we were well catered for, felt immediately welcomed and had a phenomenal customer experience from start to finish.
The food was absolutely fantastic and the chefs are an absolute asset to this establishment. Perfect portion sizes, fantastic flavours and great presentation.
A HUGE shoutout to the front of house team who also contributed to an amazing evening. John and Marie got us in the door and quickly settled with drinks in hand, Holly for her outstanding service and making us feel like we were the only ones in the room due to her attentiveness and focus on delivering such high service to us. Finally a shoutout to Mary (Nana) who kept us happy and looked after during our night cap before we left for the evening and gave us a lovely insight into the amazing establishment.
I know this review sounds like a sponsored ad. Believe me, it isn’t. I am just genuinely astounded at how a boy from big city Aberdeen can be absolutely blown away by service from a smashing restaurant in beautiful, little Lochinver.
This is an absolute not to miss place if you want great service, great food and even...
Read moreWhat's the concept ? Was this place designed by two opposing brothers or what ? It's like one said OK let's open a food business and brand it like nothing else in Lochinver. For the other brother to say OK but let's keep it a bit casual too. Let's open by the sea front then ; yeah but let's stick a big perimeter fence around it at eye height blocking the view of it right? Should we have a professional kitchen hidden in the back? Nah ! Let's stick a food van out front dominating proceedings and playing music to our tastes and sound levels. What kind of plates will we use ? Plates ? Are you mad !? Let's use environmental foam cartons. What outside ? Nawwwww !! Inside too. What should we put on the menu ? Uch only a few things but charge really dear for them OK? Should we have fish ? Of course ! We are by the sea ...but let's just score out the fish we offer on day 2 after we open and just write some other fish in instead . Same price OK? Yep! How about a burger 🍔? Absolutely , but let's not put a top on it OK. I mean they are only paying £15 for it. What do they want ?
To be fair the food was decent. The place looked nice and the toilets sweet as a nut. The serving staff, pleasant and helpful but then we had smashy and nicey in the DJ booth, sorry , kitchen behind us. Not sure if this was in fact the two brothers but they seemed to think this dining experience was equally about them as the food. A wee bit annoying.
Overpriced but really the only...
