Had lunch in café, went in because specials board in window said salmon fishcakes but apparently that was yesterday... Wanted something that wasn't a sandwich/bready so we ordered one cheese and leek quiche, which was quite tasty and fresh, and one sweetcorn & Zucchini fritters. They were more like plain pancakes than fritters, there was only 3-4 nibbles of corn per "fritter" and I couldn't see any courgette. The salad accompanying them both were very nice and fresh. No one asked if everything was OK, even when clearing plates however I did tell the waitress about lack of sweetcorn & courgette and all she said was she'd tell the kitchen. It was nice to see no dogs in the cafe and the place did look clean.

Came here with my wife and two dogs. Dogs are only allowed in the back garden area which is accessed down a lane to the side of the restaurant. Here you will find outdoor tables and chairs , of which some are under cover shouldn’t rain. There was a dog bowl with water and when our order arrived a wee dog biscuit was offered. I’ve been coming here for over 20 years, and the food is always amazing. The cafe is based downstairs and does get very busy at times, testament to its good food.

Nice shop with books and craft goods. Went to café but saw main meals not on till 11.30. We both went for eggs Benedict on sourdough toast. Unfortunately the poached eggs were overdone. Also we saw somebody getting soup that was listed in the menu as not before 11.30. Had we known we would have had that. Overall recommended to try it and the shop has some nice, but pricey, things.

Probably the best café I’ve ever been to. I visit about once a year when I’m in the area and I always come away with a big smile on my face. It is beautiful, there’s the normal café area, which is lovely with wooden floors and great furniture. Then there’s the conservatory area which is lovely on a sunny spring morning. Then there is the dog friendly outside area, the tables and chairs are actually under a roofed area. I took my dog with me and he was over the moon to find a ball the café had thoughtfully put out there for dogs. I ordered eggs Benedict (which I’ve found a lot of cafés don’t get right). They were superb, done just right, the poached eggs were warm and oozing golden yolk when cut into, and the holindaise sauce was perfect. I then had a large slice of carrot cake which was perfect. My dog had a lot of fun, a waitress even brought him a new, clean dish of water. My friends all enjoyed their food and the surroundings. The waiting staff were enthusiastic, polite and knew exactly who was having what. I highly recommend this café, it’s beautiful, the foods great and the staff are lovely. If you’re ever in Catle Douglas and want to eat something go to Designs you won’t be disappointed. It’s the best...

i went in here hoping i’d get a scrumptious cup of tea and bacon roll especially with no fat as i’m anorexic anyway when ordering i had this rather small man with long hair speaking with a rather noticeable lisp which ment i was unable to understand what he was saying so i had a bacon roll which ended having fat and curry sauce on it. I also thought it was rather unhygienic as this man had sharpie his forehead saying M-U-G and repeatedly said you know it brudda overall this experience has put me off designs also i forgot to mention this small man was just shouting not even signing artic monkey songs which was incredibly disturbing...
