Having previously been here at start of March 2020, this place had an excellent menu, amazing food and great service. Fast forward 6 months, the menu is all changed, because the Chef "wants to make it more upmarket" - which to be clear, appears to be the chef attempting to stroke his own ego, and failing miserably on all counts. The food presented was lacklustre, and did not come as instructed (ordered medium rare steak, arrived medium-well), the peppercorn "sauce" was thinner than my morning coffee, and similarly as utterly tasteless as the prime cut of beef (how do you even make a prime cut of beef so tasteless??). The only thing that eclipsed the poor food, was the utterly dreadful service. Male staff member asked multiple times for a dessert menu, and couldn't even tell us if the brownie contained nuts - which could be fatal for someone with a nut allergy. Hot chocolate and latte delivered cold. Zero coronavirus protections in place - no screens separating tables, no contact tracing details taken from anybody else other than who booked the table, and the "use once" paper menus arrived dog-eared indicating they have been re-used from previous customers (all against advice from the government). Won't be returning - absolutely ruined one of Livingston's best kept secrets. I've never left a restaurant hungrier. The only thing larger than the chefs ego was the bill - which should have been delivered to the table by someone wearing a ski mask, not just a face mask. Save your money and go to Burger King instead, less expensive their food is tastier, and you won't leave hungry.... which should say it all really. Maybe your chef should go get a job there and learn how to cook tastier food, and how to construct a menu of food that people actually...
ย ย ย Read moreMy friends and I came here for lunch on Sat 29th August and we were thoroughly looking forward to it as this was the last place that we visited together in March before lock down and the food was incredible. I work in high end hospitality and it was just as good as some five star dishes I have previously had. So anyway my friends traveled all the way from Glasgow for our post Lockdown reunion and unfortunately it was like a completely different restaurant. The menu was sparse to say the least with more room been taken up with the chefs bio than actual dishes on there. We sat for about 20 mins in disbelief that there was nothing on there we wanted to eat. We had come for a full 3 course lunch and the only thing I ended up reluctantly eating was the steak which was tasteless and served with a peppercorn sauce which was more like watered down milk and served in a bowl not a jug ๐๐ Iโd be very surprised if any dishes other than fish and chips, burger and steak ever sell. Then had a hot chocolate which was colder than my Irn Bru with ice. Both my friends had similar issues and all I can say is we are gutted that this place has completely bombed and we will never be back and will also spread the word about how awful it now is. Also there is no COVID protection in place and the place is filthy. Waiting staff pretty oblivious to anything and couldnโt really answer any menu questions with confidence. Please donโt waste your time or money, McDonaldโs is...
ย ย ย Read moreMyself and my children popped into this little gem and in all honesty we could not rate it enough. We all thought very highly of Fork and Field. We ordered of both the lunch and dinner menu as this was given to us as an option due to the time we arrived, which was fantastic as most places would not allow this ๐. I like a lighter meals so the lunch menu suited me to a T and my children ordered off the kids dinner menu. Everything was delicious and tasty, also presentation was on point!
Additionaly, both my children said it was the 'best place ever' and 'we will be back here again'. This little pub/restruant is beautiful inside and out, it has a homely yet luxurious feel to it but not only this, it also has the most amazing food, staff and is great value for money. It is just utterly fabulous and an all round winner in our books. Even our server Amie was so lovely, kind and thoughtful whilst serving us she was attentive towards my children ๐๐.
If anyone is looking for a nice little place to eat out for lunch/dinner definatly try this place and do leave the staff a little tip as they realy are an amazing bunch and are doing a fabulous job.
Thank you for having us Fork and Field and special thanks to Amie we thoroughly enjoyed our visit...
