We arrived at the cafe at 3.30pm. On seeing the menu and various savoury items at the counter, we asked if we could order lunch. We were told by two of the serving staff that they no longer were offering lunch. Attracted by the interesting menu and thinking that we might return another day for lunch, I enquired what time they stopped serving the savoury items on the menu. Neither of the staff on the counter seemed to know, so I asked an older waitress who thought it was 4.30pm. We ordered and paid £38 for lunch and drinks. I realised after paying that this didn’t correspond to the menu prices and that I had been considerably overcharged. I queried the addition, was told that the till hadn't cleared from the previous sale and that I was due £8 back which they gave me in cash, even though I had paid with a card. The staff seemed unapologetic, almost as if they had been rumbled. The food was good, so we decided that we might order some banana cake to go with our coffee. Ten minutes after ordering, it still hadn't appeared, even though we had already paid for it. My wife then went back to the counter to remind them that she had ordered the cake. It was then delivered in a brown paper bag, not on a plate as she had requested. I went back to the counter and asked if we could have a plate instead, where I was told that my wife had ordered a takeaway, something she hadn't done. We didn't complain at that moment that it took them ages to make two lattes, because we are used to slow and unprofessional service in this place. But then, being bored, my husband started to look around the different food displays at the till and the woman working there first asked him "to go and wait for his coffee in the shop" which is ridiculous cause we came in not wandering around an old ladies shop but just have some coffee to go. And then she said him "to stop staring at people". Who does she think she is talking to respectable customers like this? It is much more than just unprofessional, it is uncultured. Notice she said nothing to me. It is pure misandry. And maybe it is the whole shop and cafe policy - uncovered misandry.
