Bad food, lacking service and the compulsory tips for a large party (of 9 people) was an added insult. We had to wait 5 minutes at the door until someone moved our tables together and seated us, even though we had a reservation. When we could finally order, it took a long time before the poppadoms with dips came, and the drinks arrived even later. When the food finally arrived, the 2 chicken tikka, chicken korma, lamb pasenda and another chicken main tasted almost identical. Nauseatingly sweet, no discernible spices and no texture apart from the meat pieces, it simply tasted like coconut cream with a cup of sugar. All of us are used to indian food many places across Europe and the US, and this was some of the worst we have tasted. The other 4 mains were fairly good, but nothing out of the ordinary. With the compulsory added tip it was more expensive than the equivalent portion at the Dockside or the Peatzeria across the street, and completely tasteless for the majority...
Read moreGreat food, great service from smiling, helpful staff who couldn’t do enough for us and great food at a good price. What more could you ask for ? It was such a surprise to find a great Indian/Bangladeshi restaurant on the island. The place has a simple, unassuming frontage and inside the decor is plain and simple but there’s nothing plain about the extensive, interesting menu with lots of dishes I had never tried before. The staff were terrific explaining the menu and making recommendations and even though the place was packed with a great atmosphere, our food soon arrived. In fact at one point, even though we didn’t think we had been waiting for long, a waiter came out to apologise for our wait and to explain that our food would be ready in 3 minutes, wow, I have never had that service even in top restaurants. We ordered the Islay Special Tandoori which was excellent.
All in all I thoroughly recommend this place so if you are in Bowmore,...
Read moreCan’t comment on the food as we rang up to book a table for my parents the following night. We were told we didn’t need to book, we could just come and get a table as there are usually tables available around 7pm. So we based our whole day around making sure we would be be in Bowmore on time.
When we did get there, the owner basically tried to talk us out of eating there. Said he was too busy with takeaway orders and that we’d be waiting ages. I admire his honesty but would have been nice of him to tell us that he doesn’t really cater to people wanting to eat in. It’s in such a nice location that if he put a bit of effort into the aesthetic of the interior, he could become a hotspot for local and...
