Nice small restaurant with takeaway in the village. As we had dog with us so couldn’t eat-in, we just stopped to grab some takeaway chicken and veggie pakora (£9.95 for both). Decent enough but I felt lacked spice or flavour on both. The pakora sauce was a creamy (mango?) rather than the tomato/mint/coriander sauce, but was nice. I’m giving 3star as whilst the food was good. I’ve had better and portions were not as good as our local takeaway (where a portion of veggie pakora is enough for two people and less than £4). In saying all this, friendly staff and I would like to come back for a sit in meal to try it properly. If I get the chance I will update my review then. I would still suggest to give it a try if you are passing.

There are various ways of assessing an establishment. Uppermost among them are first impressions; they rarely deceive. The gentleman who greeted us at Lochgilphead's Taj Mahal was full of smiles and took the time and trouble to advise on various dishes. The popadoms were crisp, the pickles generous, the prawns delicious and the jalfrezi packed full of flavour. Although the Taj Mahal does not have a licence the McColls around the corner has a good selection of drinks for sale by a jolly fellow. The restaurant is spotless and every diner was happy to banter. There is a good atmosphere. Thank you for a most enjoyable evening. It was much appreciated. Nick and Hilary.

Oh my.. This is the shit! The holy grail. I've been eating a lot Indian food. I used to think, that Dishoom in Edinburgh or London would be the best. But THIS Naan bread and all the main dishes.. Had the vegetable mains. And phew.. Never had anything better! I understand that most of the people living here only take away, but we dined inside and it was very small space and not very accommodating. It was very clean. Would always come back, but would only take away next time.. Thank you so much!

This was just about the only restaurant open on a Sunday night, so we gave it a try. Very mixed results.

The service was inattentive; we waited a long time to order, and had to ask for water twice before getting it. The staff seemed very busy with take out orders, which may have been part of the problem.

The papadam was excellent - crisp, not burned, and no grease at all. The chutneys, OTOH, were just weird. The mixed pickle was fine, but the onion was bright red with food coloring and not very flavorful. The onion bhaji was good. The vegetable and mushroom pakora were so-so. The plain naan was extremely greasy and soggy. We got peshawari naan to take home for dessert; it had some odd pink filling and was inedible.

I can't account for the many 5 star reviews. I eat a lot of Indian food (after living in Hyderabad for7 months), and this was decidedly strange...

Food 11/10 Ambiance 11/10 Service 10/10 Value 10/10

I'm not usually one for Indian restaurants in non ethnic community areas and the food is not usually authentic and is tailored to the local indigenous palate.

Over this place is certainly an exception to the rule totally and utterly.

The ambiance is amazing in this nice Petite restaurant.

They appear to be extremely busy and rightfully so with exquisite divine food to die for.

Their biryani is totally out of this world really is.

The curry dishes date huge portion I cannot finish in one meal at all.

Not oily and very tasty and sumptuous. If you're ever passing by a strongly recommend to stop by.

Will be greeted by a most hospitable owner who will do anything to satisfy your desires of...
