The Barrels — Restaurant in Scotland

First visit since the refurb, the resturant is now through where the bar once was. The decor looks nice but the tables are the bench type i expect to see in a fast food place, when sitting on them they are very uncomfortable, my feet dont reach the floor and the tables are too low to eat comfortably from. The menu is printed bits of paper in a plastic coversomething i would expect to see in a cheap cafe not a resturant, the menu also like a fast food place, pick what you want then add two sides. We waited 25 mins for our meals, my partners arrived first but was cold and he sent it back, mine then appeared it was not hot but warm. The presentation was poor, a few scampi on the plate with a small bucket of fries and another of beans. The scampi didnt taste right when opened it wasnt scampi but whiting which wasnt cooked properly the fish was still clear. This was sent back. My partners reheated meal came back, the wraps clearly heated up in the micro as the edges were hard and when unfolded were all stuck together. Needless to say food was not eaten, the only good thing was we were not charged for any of it. We were regular visitors here before the refurb but il be looking for somewhere else to eat. We had an 80th Party in the large function suite which was free to hire. Nicola the manager was superb when booking,she answered all our questions and gave good advice about the evening(buffet,dj,drink prices,etc) Bar prices were very competitive especially for a function,they even bought in a particular bottle of spirit as it was the b,day boys favourite tipple.On the night Frankie and staff were friendly and very accomodating,helped out if required and sorted out our buffet etc. The DJ Steve was also excellent set a great atmosphere by getting us all involved.A great selection of requested songs,some karoake if wanted and lots to dance to. The actual venue inc toilets were very clean and tidy,all in all we would definately book The Barrels again and highly recommend its function suite to all. Breakfast at The Barrels was my sons birthday choice yesterday, he absolutely loves the pancakes with bacon. We were a group of 4 adults and 4 kids. Ordering was easy everything was table service and all staff were so helpful and polite. Unfortunately we were informed there were no pancakes, these things happen, so he went ahead and ordered the kids 5 piece breakfast. Coffees and juices were brought out to us quickly, and breakfast was not far behind. Everything was cooked to perfection, and all great value for money........Bonus points for the free pancakes getting brought out to us! Was such a nice touch and definitely going above and beyond.
