Dropped in here as it appeared to be a lovely restaurant on a beautiful loch. It was in a lovely picturesque position, waitress duly took us to a table for lunch and we both ordered the boathouse burger which we had seen outside on the menu. When the food arrived it looked delicious, however when we started eating it it was very obvious that there was very little meat content in the burger and in fact tasted like one of the highly processed ā€˜burger van’ type. While eating it oozed and dripped out fat onto the table and plate and certainly did not live up to the price tag offered on the menu of Ā£15.95. We did not complain, merely noted that we would not return to this establishment and went to pay the bill (neither of us finished our meal). When we went to the member of staff to pay the bill there were no pleasantries, or even courteous manners, she just held out the pay machine. I paid the bill and asked for a receipt as it seemed a little more expensive than expected. She gave a huff and walked off to get the receipt. I studied the receipt outside and we had been charged Ā£17.50 for each burger which was even more of an insult when the food had been shocking and the price on the menu was Ā£15.95. Ok so the difference of Ā£1.55 each is not a lot but this is not on. We were not offered a receipt at the time of paying and now I understand why, they are basically ripping people off after serving sub-standard food. I hope this review helps others when choosing to eat here.

Such a calming place to have some hot food and drinks. As the restaurant located by the Loch Insh, the view was stunning as we visited and stay for sunset viewing. You may want to do some activities there but it was limited during Winter and plenty of choices during Summer I suppose. There is also a place to stay there if you prefer to do so. In the restaurant I ordered Mac and Cheese with Garlic Bread which was nice. Falafel & Hummus Panini was so so good, crispy panini, sweet and savory of the sauce from caramelized red onion. Not to mention the hot chocolate with cream on the top, a perfect winter drink. Make a stop and stay for a while, you won’t regret it!

My wife and I went to insh loch to go kayaking. We had a wonderful time . After we decided to go to the restaurant for some food. We read different things about it so we thought we would try it out ourselves. Have to say not much choice for food but the location is amazing. The price of food is a bit high for what it was. There is a bar there but I'm not sure about the price. Some of the staff could learn to smile a little. It is the little things that make a difference. Would I go back? sadly not for the food. For Location, for kayaking, swimming, and the beauty of the surroundings.

For almost 40yrs I have been coming to the BoatHouse and the last 20yrs have been with my own family. We always make a point in having a meal at some point when we are on holiday and the food has always been excellent. Last night being the 27th August 2019 our Anniversary we again booked a table at the Boathouse for a meal only this time the food was Terrible.

My wife and I had the pan fried Sea Bass with Ganocchi and Chorizo at a price of £16.95 each me and the wife really thought we were in for a treat as we love Sea Bass. Only to be served two very small tail end pieces of Sea Bass each, the Ganocchi was like rubber and the chorizo was practically tasteless and was all swimming in that much oil you could of poured it out of the dish. My wife sent hers back and I wish I had done the same, shocking is an understatement. My son had what he always has at the Boathouse and thats the Boathouse burger which normally is a fantastic burger but this time it was very dry and was served with two bun tops nothing like what has been served in the past. My daughter had the beer battered haddock which she said was ok but again was nothing like how it has been served in the past. Both these meals came with chips that were green and the fish came with garden peas that were hard and had not been cooked long enough.

When we complained the waitress was very proffesional the chef however was not as it is an open kitchen we could hear him mouthing off and the waitress telling him to shush as we will hear him. We will be writing a formal letter of complaint when we get home and I have to say if Clive Freshwater had been a live to this day I truly beleive he would of been disgusted with what we had been served.

I am saddend to think that the Freshwaters have allowed this to happen and I truly hope they can turn this around as it has always been very enjoyable for us at the Boathouse.

We shall visit again when we are next here but for now we shall not been visiting again...

Never again!!!

Almost Ā£30 for breakfast - Ā£5.50 per roll and the rolls were freezing! When I had called to put the order in I was told breakfast finishes at 10 but can extent til 1030 if I tell them what we want - just so the kitchen know what they need to keep out and will cook when you get here. Turns out we were running late so I called to let them know and was told don’t worry the rolls have been made and are in foil bags. (At this point we should have aborted and gone elsewhere!) We arrived and the rolls were in ordinary paper bags and absolutely freezing cold!!! We ordered drinks and waited about 10mins for them! Most tables were reserved - who knows what for cos the place was empty - and no wonder given the prices and the service! Used to go all through the summer and it was decent but now it’s just a joke!!

There is no reason for them to be so slow given there was so few customers and no reason why the food should have been cooked before we arrived when we were told other wise. Also - don’t tell lies about the bags when we are clearly going to see them!

Overall… prices & staff are questionable!!!

(The toilets are absolutely...
