Looked online for a breakfast place near our campsite and this looked most promising - reasonable prices, and pancakes for our veggie daughter.
When we arrived all was still looking good - the cafe also has a woolshop vibe and nice shabby chic interior.
We asked about pancakes - oh dear, they don't do those anymore said the slightly bored waitress.
Nevermind, daughter ordered a mango smoothy and toast instead.
Then looking at the menu we noticed that the prices were quite a bit more than the ones we'd seen online. eg 12.95 for a full English rather than 9.95.
Nevermind again - we're on holiday!
Wife orders a cup of tea. It's £1 extra for Earl Grey (??? Why ???)
It's also £1 extra for oat milk (???!!!!!!!!!!! Why?????)
So a cup of tea turns out to be over £4
Breakfast arrives and looks distinctly average. Sausage isn't a nice butchers sausage but a smooth pink "meat" sausage the like of which I haven't seen since I camped with my parents in the 1970s.
I will also eat my hat if my mushrooms weren't left over from yesterday. They could only be described as "wizened".
I also ask the waiter who brings the food "is that my toast?"
He looks confused. Apparently toast with the full English is an "extra"
This is a first for me but I ask for some "extra" toast.
Meanwhile my wife has eggs on toast with roast cherry tomatoes - she gets 4 cherry tomatoes.
My daughter's smoothie was undrinkable - I tried it - it seemed to be made of oats and ice. Perhaps it had been held near a mango. It was also served in a plastic takeaway cup - but we were eating in!?!!? Again, why would they do that?
My coffee was nice.
We didn't hang around to soak up the ambience and we didn't complain at the time because we didn't want to make the experience even worse, but we ended up paying over £45 for an average to V poor (the smoothie) breakfast for 3 and we felt as if we'd been...
Read moreOverall: Food decent enough, great coffee, wholly let down by poor customer service. Came in for breakfast. After bluntly being asked if it was 'just me?!' was directed to sit at a table for 2 which needed to be cleaned; fair enough. The server, lad in a beanie and glasses, removed the dirty plates but didn't wipe down the table. His whole demeanour was just disinterested and unfriendly; no greeting, didn't ask whether I wanted white or brown toast. I have to say £7.95 for a couple of slices of cheap white bread and poached eggs which were quite vinegary, with no effort at plating is quite extortionate. The coffee is good quality and the latte looked lovely. The couple of ladies who sat at the table adjacent to me were obviously quite taken aback at how poor the customer service was from the lad in the beanie, who audibly huffed and mumbled 'what can I get you'. Upon paying I wasn't even asked how everything was. I come up to Aberlour a couple of times a year and would be...
Read moreThe café is nicely decorated and offers a good variety of desserts. It’s conveniently located next to a supermarket, with a few parking spaces available directly in front.
I ordered a cheesecake, an espresso macchiato, and a cappuccino. The cheesecake was enjoyable—flavorful and not overly sweet—making it a great companion to coffee.
Unfortunately, I found the coffee disappointing. Both drinks were mild and lacked depth of flavor. While the café’s promotional images featuring latte art might suggest a high standard, regular coffee drinkers may find the coffee underwhelming. If you’re simply looking for a caffeine boost, I’d recommend opting for a black coffee.
Additionally, the espresso macchiato was served in a standard cappuccino cup, which may reflect a lack of attention to traditional coffee presentation.
The total came to £11.50 for two coffees and a...
