I'd booked a tasting at Aberlour for their Single Cask Experience about 2 months prior to travelling to Scotland from Canada for our honeymoon. I had really liked the Aberlour bottles available here at home and wanted to try something I could only sample and buy at the distillery. Last minute (about a day and half before the tasting) I got an email telling me they were cancelling the tasting because of staff shortages and closing the visitor centre as well. I understand cancelling the tasting (even when you've had months to figure out staff for the start of tourist season) but to then close the visitor centre too was extremely unfortunate. The email said to respond to the address used to send it, so I did and asked if there was a way to get a single cask bottle over the next two days while I was in the area and staying at a hotel 2min down the road. Never got a reply then and still waiting a week later. I get that there's unexpected moments running a business, but the lack of communication and willingness to try to accomodate guests when they book far in advance and travel a long distance is a bit disheartening. I really hope the distillery has better luck with staffing going forward and others get to try the tastings, because my one opportunity to do so...
Read moreOf the two distillery tours we did, this one was by far the best. From what you get to see, to how you were treated, to the samples, this is the place to go.
They treat you right and give a very good tour. Our tour guide not only went into detail on how whiskey is made, but also told the story of how Aberlour came about. Her stories were interesting and knowledge of whiskey was beyond incredible.
They’re tastings had a great range of types, 5 total (6 if you include the original spirit). Glenfiddich only offers 3. Our guide was also friendly enough to ask where we are staying and then promptly gave us recommendations for other places to go afterwards. Although Aberlour is smaller than most distilleries in the area they go further to make sure your visit was worth the time and money you put in to...
Read moreYesterday I visited the Aberlour Distillery for a whisky tasting with two friends — and it was absolutely top-notch! Everything was so well organized and thoughtfully presented.
What stood out the most was the incredible attention to detail in the storytelling — we were completely immersed in the history and craft behind each expression.
The presentation was beautiful, full of character and small touches that made the experience feel truly special.
A lovely surprise was the Walkers shortbread, a delicious and elegant little bonus that added a true taste of Scotland.
Also appreciated the exclusive discount in their shop — a great opportunity to take home a bottle (or two!) at a better price.
Highly recommended to any whisky lover or curious traveler in the...
