I planned a party here for my Mum and Dads 40th wedding anniversary, they had their original wedding reception here 40 years ago so it was very special. We went with the package deal. ||The original planning etc went well, I met with Diane the owner who was friendly and happy to help. |However the problems started when I could not get in touch with Diane the week of the party, she had said the DJ would be in touch to discuss the evening but I had not hear from him so emailed her, I never heard back so called and spoke with a staff member who said she was away in holiday but had left all the plans with then for the party on Sat. |Unfortunately Diane had not left all the details we had discussed with her staff. ||Firstly, when booking the party I was under the impression that the DJ was included in the price of the package, this may have been partly my fault for assuming, however at no point was it discussed that we would pay the DJ on the night or that we could have just arranged our own DJ instead. I was very surprised when the manager approached me and told me I would have to pay £200 the DJ on the night. I did not have the money. My brother had to finally do a bank transfer. I wish that this had been communicated more clearly so we weren’t caught off guard on the night. It was a package deal?? We would also have chosen a family friend who is a DJ to preform if I’d had known that was an option, for half the price.||Secondly- there was no gluten free meal for my sister in-law, even though this was discussed in person and via email. The manager (Adam I think) managed to get the chef to whip her up something but she had to wait and my food went cold trying to sort it out for her. I feel this was so unnecessary. Adam said there was no note of any gluten free on the booking. Why not? ||Thirdly- some of the guests did not get any food at all because by the time they got to the front of the line it had ran out and we were told there would be no more. |We paid an extra £50 for 3 trays of food, to feed 80 people! I don’t understand it. I’ve never in my life been to a venue where the food ran out. It was very embarrassing. |Now, I know there may be a possibility that people were being too greedy with portions but perhaps if someone was serving this could have been prevented. However, I actually don’t think that was the case, I do not think that was enough food to feed 80 people and actually the final number was 76! ||Can I just say that Adam was great and did manage to get us some sandwiches for the people who didn’t get anything to eat and the food that was served was delicious and hot.|Also the manager who was in early evening was very helpful. ||This was a very special night for my Mum and Dad and unfortunately it did not go as smoothly as I would have liked.||There was several other little things which wouldn’t have bothered me normally, but with everything else it just make the over all experience underwhelming. |Staff could not fine the easel (which I had requested in the planning) , |They were not aware of table to be reserved or lights to be red.|I had to go round and turn on all the fish bowl lights, x2 did not work.|Male bar tender for the 2nd half of the evening was quite rude with a bad front of house attitude (several guest commented on this).||I feel that all of these things could have been prevented and feel so very disappointed, we had been planning and looking forwards to this evening for many months. We also spent a lot of money and expected everything to run smoothly. ||I have also emailed Diane (owner) twice regarding these issues and have have no reply! I have waited long enough for a reply, perhaps if we had received some sort of explanation or apology I would not have to write...
Read moreSept 2020. The decor inside is nice service good but my lentil soup was only warm & watery. My lady friend had lovely 🔥 crisp hagis tubes BUT the base of her lovely presented round cheese cake was a bit too hard.
Tue 30/4/24 Back in again at ten to one with my 2 American friends + a few others & they were most impressed by the service & the sampling of some off the sauses, & all the food that we consumed was spot on SO what more do you want than that.
Monday 22/4/24. 12.15 pm Back again for the 3rd time, now that they serve up Indian meals.
I went for their £13.95 two course from their lunch menu that's on from 12 - 3pm & the waiter who i thought was the chef said he would give me some chicken tikka along with my vegetable pakora - like what i would call a semi mixed starter & it was spot on along with the lovely tasting dip 10/10
MAIN COURSE Chicken Kolhapur & rice. There r some who might like the rice to be a bit sticky [which i don't] or better still fluffy, but this rice was more on the firm side & there was plenty off it & it was piping hot🔥 It's always good to see the red pepper 🌶️ 🌶️ 🌶️ symbols or emogies on their menu. It gives an idea as to how hot 🥵 the meal can be & i was told that they will alter the spicyness/heat of it if u so desire. There were NO tough chicken 🐤 in my starter or in my Kolhapur meal. 10/10.
Now what wasn't piping hot - was my plate 🍽️ that Ryan (the waitress) put down on my table, i said to him there's a major problem here & b4 i could say what it was - he just realised & said the plate's cold & without any arguments he was happy 😄 to take it away & heat it up & apologised that it wasn't het up when it came.
My dear departed twin brother said to me, always wait for 1/2 an hour b4 going for a CHINESE meal to give the wok time to heat up SO that might also be a good idea to give the plates time to heat up too. I will return with some friends at the end of the month, for their very pleasant waitress service, lovely seating areas, & great 💯% tasting food + reasonably priced soft drinks.
So all those who haven't been here, take a trip out & you won't be disappointed 👍 Just make sure you don't get a cold 🍽️ ...
Read moreStayed here overnight as going to airport next day. Free parking at the place. Reasonable room rate. Location was ideal for us west coasters. Virtually straight road to airport. Staff at oxgang kitchen were great. Very welcoming and showed us to room, explained everything about stay. Service in pub was brilliant. Food was pretty tasty. Loved street food idea. All good. The thing that really let it down was the room. The room and bathroom were a great size but it really wasn't clean. Dirty cotton bud in bin. Dirty towels outside door. Hairs in sink, stained carpet, mould around shower. Cracked tiles around shower cubicle which meant water running into bathroom, door handle fell off (bathroom). Inside wardrobe was a layer of dust. The bed was just awful. Mattress was paper thin with springs obviously broken. The worst sleep ever. The only reason i stayed was it was only one night and we were both shattered. I 'slept' with my clothes on. We didn't touch tea/coffee stuff. A lot more care with cleanliness and some upgrading of rooms would go a long way...
