So decided to go and support a local establishment during the Covid Crisis. I've heard so many good reports about the Steak Barn but unfortunately we left very disappointed tonight and £101 out of pocket. I never normally write reviews but coming from a catering background felt compelled to do so as this place could have so much more potential! I'll start with the positive, our steaks were cooked to perfection! But only after a 3 hour wait from pitching up to the food being placed on the table. I suppose it's one way of getting people to use the bar area while they wait but for 2 hours during Covid 🤔.. I personally think a booking system would alleviate so many people hanging around for such a long time waiting on a table becoming available? The kids menu was disappointing with 3 choices.. a burger was chosen but unfortunately was dry and far to peppery for a kid? So after a 3 hour wait the chips and a dry roll were consumed by a very hungry boy for just under £10. There were so little food on the plate/slate he continued to eat my chips? I paid £20 for a sirloin steak, chips and a wee bit Rocket lettuce which turned up on a wooden chopping board that had seen better days? Then the further extras of Peppercorn Sauce (which proceeded to run off the board and onto the table as there were no sides or grooves to stop it) and a portion of Beer Battered Onion Rings which by the time they reached the table were cold, tasteless and greasy? My mother had the lamb burger which she said was ok hence the 3 stars.. she asked for some salt and a small tub of rock salt was placed on the table with nothing to grind it with so I had to crush it for her with the end of my knife so she could sprinkle it on her food🤦♀️ We had to ask for Tomato Sauce and was brought a craft of tap water..? We were never asked at any point if we needed anything or was everything ok? This place has so much potential but cant help feel let down tonight. The staff looked tired and exhausted and at some points out their depth. The food was practically flung at us and tepid and anything else we required felt like it was hassle for them.. (which in fairness it probably was as they were so busy). Will I go back? Well I won't be rushing back.. so not in the...
Read morePerhaps the worst service I have ever experienced in my life. We were a group of five and ordered starters and main courses. Firstly, they all came together which was not noted on the menu and highly inconvenient. I had ordered a steak and asked for no pepper and on first inspection this seemed to have been catered for. However after one bite all I could taste was pepper so I flipped the steak over to reveal the entire reverse side covered in pepper. Clearly the kitchen had missed this on my order and tried to hide their mistake. A deceptive choice, particularly if I were allergic to pepper... I complained and it took fifteen minutes for a waitress to come back and respond with, ‘it’s really busy so the kitchen must have seen your request but forgot and served it anyway. Can you eat around the pepper?’ By this point the steak was stone cold so I asked for a replacement. Another 15 minutes went by and we asked on the status only for the waitress to not return. When my friends had finished their meals and a waitress came to clean their plates, I asked again where my meal was. The waitress returned and said the kitchen had forgotten and asked would I still like it. No apology was given. I finally got my meal fifteen minutes later and had the pleasure of eating it while all my friends had finished their meals. I can safely say it was not worth the effort and time taken to acquire it: the new steak was much smaller, thinner and looked like it was just slapped onto the board. When it came to pay I expected some sort of apology and recompense for such awful service, however neither of these were given. Unsurprising now since the whole experience was marred by incompetence. When I brought this up, I wad told it was company policy to not refund steaks and the best they could do was take off my starter. How amiable. Avoid this place, especially if you have dietary requirements: complete and...
Read moreCame here for a meal with my partner and we were very disappointed with the service from the staff, especially the staff member taking the table bookings. We were told that the wait was around 20-25 minutes which we expected as we come here often. Sat outside for around 20 minutes before the couple who were in front of us in the queue got called. Thought we were going to be next so we sat directly in front of the entrance so we could hear our name getting shouted. Another 3 names were called (who arrived after us) so I knew that our name had probably been missed. We then went in to ask if our name had been skipped considering it had now been 45 minutes. The staff member, who took our name to begin with, apologised then said she had already shouted it and someone must of pretended to be us to get in quicker. This definitely wasn’t the case as we were sitting directly in front of the entrance. She then sat us directly at the doors so we were completely frozen. Ordered the chicken kebab and asked for the sweet chilli sauce to be swapped for garlic butter to be told that they can’t swap the sauce and I’ll have to pay for the butter as an extra, which was fine. When my order came 30-40 minutes later, they didn’t even put the sweet chilli sauce (that I apparently couldn’t swap out) on my plate even though I had technically paid for it. Overall, I think they need to get a better system for bookings rather than putting names on a piece of paper. It’s not the first it’s happened to us and I dread to think how long we would of sat there if we hadn’t said something in the...
