Great little bistro with excellent menu, quality of food and service. We luckily discovered this gem on our first full day in Scotland staying in Arrochar. We looked for places to visit in the local area and found Luss. This is a beautifully quaint village on the shores of Loch Lomond. The Village Rest is a bistro that's 5 minutes walk from the main car park in Luss. We have eaten there for the past 2 days and the food is amazing with the great bonus of the staff being just as good. Very friendly and helpful and also willing to accommodate my wife's taste's in cuisine (her favourite thing is Cesar salad but she fancied a jacket potato so the made her one with Cesar salad as a topping..... Not a topping choice on the menu). I had the Mac & Cheese. Both dishes where fantastically presented and really tasty, no skimping on portion sizes either. We went back on the second day to try their cooked Scottish Breakfast. Amazing and beautiful ingredients. As I've already said, the staff are so very friendly too. Absolute must visit place if you need to refuel while hiking, want a nice meal or simply need a hot drink. Highly recommended. We're here for a few more days so we shall return. Genuinely thank you for making our visit so lovely.

A lovely place to rest after a walk. Delicious coffee, large selection of cakes and snacks. The owner printed out a map of paths and attractions around Luss, which helped us a lot on our trip.

From the get go this place is so welcoming wether your from Tokyo or Utah or in my case Dundee. Ian and his staff clearly are leaders in customer service.. So friendly great sense of humour and when we went in it was a full house.. but i was still made to feel like me and my partner were the only ones present. Even the way the staff and the owner mixed clearly this is a happy work place. And it showed in the food aswell. I had the cajun chicken salad with potatoes and for dessert i had the white chocolate and strawberry cheesecake Food was served well and quickly which after a busy day of exploring was top class. I can assure you when im next here ill definately be back... only slight issue i had was who we were sat next too. A smelly hippy with no shoes on and their socks were barkitt. But well ill let it slide. Highly recommend here!

We love Luss and have been to the Village Rest several times. It’s great that it allows dogs. I would say the menu is quite over priced for the food they offer, toasties, baked potatoes etc. Average spend for food and drink per person is £20 and it is cafe food. However I don’t know if they have to make up the short fall for the colder months when it isn’t so busy perhaps? Service has always been slightly questionable in here, I don’t think the team communicate very well with each other, as we were told different things by each person we asked for help from. We had reserved a table and arrived at the reservation time to see several tables outside available with reserved signs on them, we had reserved outdoor seating over the phone. However while waiting to be seated the member of staff greeting customers without reservations filled the outside tables and then told us they did not have our reserved table available. She left and returned to advise us to wait and there would be a table shortly outside. We waited for around 20 mins for the staff member to return and say she was mistaken that we wouldn’t be able to get seated outside and offered us an inside table. Whilst waiting we did notice that other customers asking the same questions would be told different things by different members of staff. So this is why I feel the communication is lacking between the staff members, resulting in chaotic service. Then again it was really busy and I’m sure they were doing their best with a full house. We do like it here, just slightly let down by the service at times and prices, but it is in lovely Luss and its good for coffee and a toastie, even if it...

Not a great experience, I’m afraid.

Myself, partner and son decided to stop in for dinner after noticing a busy outdoor area and a large queue earlier in the day.

We were warmly welcomed on arrival and shown to our table. Unfortunately that is where the positives end.

Upon being told that no chips were available at all due to a supplier issue we decided to go ahead with sweet potato fries as a replacement.

When ordering at the window to the kitchen the member of staff didn’t seem at all interested and still had his earphones in so it came as no surprise when extra portions of food came to our table.

The lentil soup was very nice but was rushed down as the main order of Mac & Cheese came out before I was finished and with the server holding a hot plate over me I felt obliged to hurry up. No mention of an apology or an opportunity to keep the plate warm for an extra five minutes which would have been appreciated.

The Mac & Cheese itself was pretty bland having very little or no seasoning added to it before it was sent out. The dish felt as though it contained excess water which hadn’t been drained from the pasta and the accompanying garlic bread was extremely soggy. The sweet potato fries which were chosen as a replacement for the chips were also tasteless.

Overall, poor quality food at a price that you would expect...
