This is an edit from the previous 4 star review when I was last here a few years ago. I heard this place is under new management and I have to say, my experience of it on this occasion is horrendous. This place used to be absolutely mobbed daily and required to be booked well in advance. When we got there it was not even 50% full and that was at 6pm on a Saturday. We now know why, and we will never be back.
Ordered online at the table and the drinks all came half empty due to us ticking the option of not having any ice. The waitress said "this is their policy". We ordered garlic breaded mushrooms for a starter and they were clearly straight out the fryer into the little bowls. The bowls were filled with grease. Try to peirce them with the forks and the bread just crumbled to reveal the inner mushroom filled with grease. Never ate them and no questions asked by the waiting staff when they had taken them away from the table.
The mains weren't much better either and the time it had taken for them to get to us we were on the verge of just leaving considering they weren't even busy.
It's a shame it's got this bad here as it was amazing before.
Won't be surprised when it...
Read moreHave been here many times and never had a complaint. However the food last night was very poor. Ordered the Farmhouse Fish supper (which included fish, sausage and scampi), the first of which I sent back as it looked as though it ha been sitting under a hot plate for an hour. Service staff came out to explain that it had been cooked fresh, and if I still wanted it, it would be exactly the same. I did reorder it, under the privisal that it was definitely cooked fresh. But second order did indeed look exactly the same - Not golden and crispy the way a fish or sausage supper should look, but almost brown and when you cut into the fish or sausage, the batter just disintegrated into fine dark orange/brown crumbs. I really dont know how they managed to cook it so bad.....old oil, over heating, poor ingredients - who knows. Another thing I should point out, a sausage supper from a chippy is not just a regular sausage that has been deep fried with whatever they called the brown crumb stuff (defo not batter). And wholetail scampi made using processed scampi - is no longer wholetail scampi. Definitely wont be rushing back...
Read moreFew months prior I had booked for the festive menu for 11 adults and a child. Came up to pub and paid my deposit as requested by the manager! When we came for Boxing Day lunch we were sat at a table (not at the family section as requested) that hadn’t been set like the rest in the restaurant, Completely bare table no table cloth no crackers etc but thought ok let that slide they are busy. After 20 mins nobody had came and asked up for our drinks or orders etc and seeing as it was the festive menu that was expected. When questioned on what was happening we were told (you never booked the festive menu so you order yourself at the bar from the main menu and you shouldn’t have even been asked for a deposit for that).. we weren’t even asked anything when we came in either just showed to a table if asked this could have been resolved earlier.. so not only was my time wasted by coming to pay a deposit I was made to look like a idiot in front of all family as it was up to me to have this arranged. We’ve used here a few times before for Xmas day etc so it was quite disappointing to say the least.
Lesson learned it’s simply...
