Piccola Bar & Kitchen — Restaurant in Sefton

Was here on 6th Feb. Celebrating my daughter's birthday. Mussels a la creme wasn't seasoned. Cheese garlic bread was burnt. Beef manzo special was over cooked, not much actual beef in it, nice flavour though. Lasagne was over cooked(pasta like smush) dry and too much mixed herb or dried basil, whatever they used. Spaghetti bolognese was again not seasoned, minced beef not seasoned. I think the sauce they used was just tinned tomatoes. The mince was not cooked in the tomatoes, just reheated together with too much garlic and not enough herbs. Nice looking restaurant but service wasn't very good, no one introduced themselves and no one was very attentive. 3 floor staff and someone on the bar should of easily been able to deal with the 30-40 people. I got the impression there was no team work going on and not sure who was in charge, if there was no manager this may explain the lack of coordination. Really wanted this to be nice as I live only 10 minutes walk away. Very disappointed. The food is really nice however the service is something like I have never seen before. You walk in and the people behind the bar just stare at you as though “why are you here?” No one comes over to greet you when you have a table booked, so we stood at the bar for around 10 mins waiting to be seated, for them to just point us to our table from the bar. people behind the bar were rude and looked as though they had better things to be doing. No menu was given we had to go up and ask, same for cutlery when food eventually arrived. No one even served us we went up to order our food. It was honestly appalling. Also the staff were vaping inside which considering it’s classed as a restaurant is disgusting when people are eating food. Booked for today (Sunday 17th March) my birthday meal ! was disappointed to find it was a set menu , should of been told upon booking ? Wasn’t offered a wine menu , had my 9yr with us was not offered a kids menu ? But as a good eater left it at that and ordered from the set menu , he like tomato paste so ordered that , he don’t mind a bit of spice but omg it was extremely spicy even for me to try , thankfully he had a garlic bread starter and he shared his sisters pizza , when asked was food ok I said it was far to spicy for him , she said do u want to take it home ?
