LOOK AT THE MOST RECENT UPDATE!
Went here with the wife. Really nice decor and feels very upmarket.
We had 3 courses each and every single dish we had was delicious. Our waiter was very friendly and seemed very knowledgeable on all the different cuts of steak.
I had a 16oz T-bone, which was a cut I'd never tried before- it was exceptional! Cooked to perfection. My wife had the sirloin and also commented on how nice it was and how beautifully cooked.
I had been told that this place was quite expensive but I think that because it used to be a pub, some people expect 'pub grub' prices. If you compare it to similar restaurants in the town centre I didn't think the prices were unreasonable at all. Especially when the quality of the food is so high.
Would definitely recommend this place to others and will be trying to find an occasion to come back.
Update: we went back and it was just as good if not better. I had the 10oz grain fed sirloin with the beef dripping sauce. It was AMAZING! I was still thinking about it with a smile on my face for the following week! Our waiter "Sean" was really helpful and in fact it was he who recommended the sauce. Seriously, if I could I'd eat here everyday!
UPDATE 12/04/2019 Uh-oh. STANDARDS ARE SLIPPING!! Went for the wife's birthday. Was really looking forward to it. Got there slightly early so was asked to get a drink and wait for our table - no problem doing this except that there was massive queues so it took ages to get served. Got our table and ordered our food. Starters came. While I don't expect portion to be huge, for £6 I expect more than a mouthful. Pathetically small portion. Tasty but just not good value. Mains arrived. We'd both ordered medium rare. Mine was mostly ok - But a bit chewy in places. My wife's was ok at the start but as she got to the middle it was pretty much raw. As she'd already eaten a lot of it we didn't feel like we could send it back. Disappointing. Poor quality. After mains, Our waiter asked if we'd like desserts. We said yes and he brought us 2 menu's. Then we waited for like 15 minutes. Poor service. When he did come back I was annoyed so we skipped desserts and got the bill. Won't be rushing back. Used to be my favourite restaurant. So sad it's gone crap. 😢
poor service at both the bar and the restaurant. poor value for money with the starters. poor food quality...
Read moreBar staff were extremely friendly and asked if we would like our drinks at our table. We explained that on arrival the lady we gave our booking info to, told us to get a drink from the bar, which we immediately did & sat in the bar area. He then escorted us to our table which was booked for 4 adults and 1 child aged 1 so we needed a highchair which he fetched for us. The guy attending our table was called CJ and he was extremely friendly and attentive, he couldn't have done more for us. Couldn't fault any staff members at all. Food wise,we all had a beautiful starter followed by a child's steak & fries, a t-bone steak, 2 filet steaks & a steak burger. Everyone enjoyed their meal. Mine was a 10oz filet steak which I left quite a lot of fatty bits that I couldn't eat. Also, what spoiled my meal more was the fact that I ordered beef dripping sauce but was served with peppercorn sauce which I didn't realise until I had poured it over everything. I did try scraping the sauce off my steak & chips the best I could, as I don't like peppercorn sauce, but it just really put me off the meal, I tried a couple of chips but couldn't eat it. When CJ came to clear the table he did ask if everything had been OK and I explained what had happened. He said he would get me another but at this point, the rest of the family had finished their meals. We did all have a dessert, which we all enjoyed immensely. The only other thing I think could be improved on was the seats we were sat at. It was a booth rather than a table and although it wasn't an issue for the adults, the highchair didn't fit up to the table at the booth where if it had been at a table he would have been able to reach his plate. I did specify when I booked online that a highchair was required and would like to think provisions would have been in place for this. We were celebrating my son's birthday so I didn't mind the price (£279.00) but for me, it would have to be a special occasion to justify such an expensive meal. Overall we had an...
Read moreI had to wander around aimlessly for a few minutes asking for help and getting redirected before someone came to greet me. Introductions to my server were a nice touch, when we got there eventually.
As they say, first impressions are important, so the rocky table, the disintegrating disposable napkins and old, faded, hard to read menu didn't help here, but my server was attentative and friendly, it was also nice to see the other waiters help out when delivering food. They were clearly busy, perhaps a reason for my request for water going unanswered.
The offerings at M&C are relatively standard affair with steak, chips and assorted sauces, but they take it a step further with a refreshingly simple, but not boring quarter ice berg with choice of toppings ( honey mustard with bacon is recommended) and the house special onion cake thing. The onion cake here was served as a slice, which I found slightly too gooey, compared to the small round cake I've had at another M&C. I had the 16OZ rump with peppercorn, which was good. I'm not sure twice cooked chunky chips were worth the extra £1, but they were nice nonetheless.
Dessert was chef's recommendation of knickerbocker glory and despite being ready to lambast the lack of ice cream flavours, I actually found it very satisfying with just vanilla, brownies, fruit and rasberry/Chocolate sauces.
All in all, the slightly disappointing first impressions were easily forgotten and forgiven in light of my great server and tasty food. The house soda, Lychee, was a tasty surprise, served in a...
