Went for tea here this evening. I ordered a mixed grill. They asked me how I wanted my steak, I asked for medium rare, it came out over well done and was as tough as an old boot to chew. I’m not one for complaining usually but as the steak was un-edible and was the part of my meal I was looking forward to most I had to say something to the waiter. The waiter was professional and was very sorry and asked if I would like to speak to the manager, I said, no there is no need for that, I’m happy to settle for a free pint. He said he would speak to the manager for me. I waited for about 15 mins and eventually spoke to the waiter again and he just said sorry mate we can’t do anything. Terrible management and terrible chef! What’s the point in asking someone how they want their steak cooked if they just do the opposite anyway?
Edit: The owner has replied to this review asking me to contact them to resolve this. I did give them the chance to resolve this when I was at their establishment but unfortunately for them they didn’t resolve it. It seems they only care when they receive bad...
Read moreVisited this place for a meal for the first time since the new landlord, Gary, took over (3 months ago).
Unfortunately it hasn't got any better - worse if anything. Still no friendly welcome or smile from any of the staff, including the landlord; the kitchen wanting to close early; and apparently a kids meal isn't a kids meal unless you specifically ask for it. The meal comes with a drink and dessert for an extra £1, but because we didn't specifically ask for that when ordering they wanted to charge us an extra £5 to buy them separately. Given nowhere else operates like this I'd have expected a friendly "would you like the meal option" when ordering, or a friendly "sorry for the confusion, let's sort that out for you". But there's nothing friendly about this place at all!
Recommendation - do yourself a favour and frequent the Castle or...
Read moreI've known about this pub for a while now and has been on my to do list for a while. So what better time to visit than on Spitfire day the 5th March when the Spitfire first took flight in 1936. This was my Birthday today and was the final destination of the day and to finish the day with a nice drink and evening meal. The feel was modern with lots of nice hints of the connections to the famous plane. The food menu was good and catered for most people's tastes. I just went for a starter and main meal which arrived quickly and alot of attention to detail from the staff to make sure you were happy. Spent a couple of hours there enjoying the evening atmosphere from the locals and finishing my Birthday on a...
