A great Winter pub, probably summer too with plenty of outdoor seating ... but we visited on a cold, damp, dark October Friday lunch time. The fire was roaring and the atmosphere set. As a ex-dog owner, I find it irritating when owners seem to have little control over their animal ... but, it's a country pub and if I didn't want to face the possiblity of dogs in the bar then I should go where they're not allowed. They are allowed in the Crown, and it turned out to be worth the 'irritation'. LOL. Although clearly sat in the Bar area and not the 'Restaurant Space' it was a very nice surprise to get Table-Service for food & drink ordering, delivery of that and payment. The staff are very friendly, aware of their regulars who seemed to make up the majority of customers and keen to make first-timers into regulars. Service was quick. The food was very good pub-rub; tasty, filling and not expensive. It's off the beaten track on the edge of the city of sheffield but could be in the remotest of villages, there is no sense of the big city close by. There is also, plenty of easy access parking. Our whole visit was good-value for money and a very nice experience.

Update January 2018: the food is now of an excellent quality, with great portions and without much of a wait at all. The surf and turf is delicious, and I highly recommend getting the steak on the “hot rocks” which allows you to cook it a bit at a time yourself. Perfect for a pinker steak. The homemade chips are really tasty, and the atmosphere in general if friendly and warm. Highly recommended. It's a great walkers Pub, warm atmosphere and good beers.

Lovely pub with grub, down a small road. Recommended from a pub guide book. Nice selection of beers and a good menu. Quiet when we called in on a midweek afternoon, but very popular. Plenty of seating inside and a large marquee outside. Large car park to the side and rear. Nice chat with the friendly staff.

Went with my friend who is from leeds and we Got in at 630pm was told we had to be out for 745pm as there was a table reserved. That was fine we had plenty of time...so we thought. Our starter came at around 7 ish and i had the skewers. The most dryest thing i have ever tasted, no flavour just chicken with dry burnt pieces of chorizo. After finding my own sauce to help me swallow the starter we then waited until 740pm for our main to arrive.. i had the burger.... well i thought the chicken was dry. I couldn't even cut into it. The lovely waitress came over and asked if everything was ok amd i showed her thr trouble i was having even cutting the burger in half. She apologised and took it back into the kitchen. At 750pm another burger arrived which was better and they had cooked the whole thing again. Unfortunately this was also dry and tough and not worth £1 never mind £9.50! Also at this point the group of cyclists were swarming around our table leaning on it and sitting all around us and at one point asked us to sot somewhere else as they had reserved that table.obviously we didnt know how long it would take for our food to be cooked so we decided to call it a day and pay up and go....hungary. The waitress appologised and did knock my bill down to just pay for the starter ( which was very nice of her) but the whole experience for my friend and i was awful. The waitress also said her manager would call me which he clearly isnt going to so thought i would leave my experience here. Would never go back again... over priced for the dry...

Had happy memories of past times at this place, some years ago. What a let down. It was cold, miserable and dank. My friend said her sea bass was good, but my fish goujons were glorified chunky fish fingers. The "salad" was half a dozen bistro leaves, and the chips were deep fried par boiled potatoes. Each chip was about 6" long. They reminded me of when my mother used to cook chips in a deep pan, some 70 years ago. When the fat was old and burned. The man was quite stunned when I replied to his "is everything alright" question and said it was appalling. He did not offer a replacement, refund or discount. Plus, they sold non-alco gin and beer, but not wine. When I asked for water I was given tap water, with lots of ice and lemon, not the bottled water I had to ask specifically for. No doubt they will be surprised they have not got a...
