While this place isn't new and shiny - a little worn down, in fact - it was a nice surprise. Here were our thoughts:

Firstly, there was room at this pub and once full, people were encouraged to wait instead of turned away, like lots of other places.

Second, we were greeted and seated by a kind, thin man who checked in on us throughout the meal and helped us with the "self service" portion. He, along with the other staff really cared.

Third, the food was quite good. We're not talking about anything too intense or fancy, just basic pub seafood mostly, but the execution looked like it had an x-factor.

Lastly, prices weren't extortionate. This is always an issue in tourist areas but fair pricing indicates a respect for the customer. I think this place does that well.

Overall, I recommend this if you're...

Ate here (seated in the King Haakon Bar) tonight as a party of 8 (3 children). Would not recommend. Scampi, chips and chicken goujons all appeared to be frozen. Steak and Ale pie seemed to be filling from a can with a bit of puff pastry on top. We ordered two different burgers which would have been lovely, except they came 'pre-sauced' with (a lot) of ketchup and American style mustard, which just seemed to drown out and counteract the flavour of the burgers (ketchup with your blue cheese anyone?). Pepsi was flat and had a strange after taste.

It was very busy and people were standing waiting to be seated so must be popular. However, I don't understand why as food is questionable, certainly for the prices.

Staff were great though, friendly and helpful which is why I've given 3...

Absolutely an amazing experience at Castle Moil Restaurant. We walked in the last hour before closing time and the staff welcomed us in and were really friendly. We quickly ordered and our food & drinks came swiftly. The langoustines tasted SO good! And, they are better value than the other ones at restaurants in the same area- I know their menu probably changes with time, but we were given 10 very large langoustines for £22 (in other restaurants that usually gave us around 6 of them for that price). They were already cracked open which was easier than having to pull the tail off each one. Lovely selection of local ales and the Sticky Toffee Pudding was heavenly. We will definitely be returning to this restaurant on our next...

Not the greatest of choice and what I got was vile,it was supposed to be BBQ pulled pork but it was in a un toasted ciabatta served with Brakes own (or similar) chips the bbq sauce was like a cheap jar of Tesco's economy brand bbq sauce ,very watery and sharp like vinegar, my partner however got the seafood platter which she enjoyed but she had the distinct feeling that a lot of what was on her plate was taken in and not fresh from local suppliers ...the staff member that served us was polite and attentive and I could not fault her service or manner, a very nice young lady. All in all I would not return unless the quality bar is seriously raised ,this being said your opinion my vary on the taste and quality of the said dishes served.
