I have 2 year old twin boys. As a pair, they are very happy together and they do make a lot of 'noise' in terms of cheering together, shouting and playing vocal games. They are loving life!
It was very disappointing to have a young member of staff come over to us asking us to keep our babies noise down saying that someone had complained and telling me "I'm just keeping it real". Is the Harvester not a FAMILY restaurant? Aren't babies and children dining in there all day every day? Do other children not make 'noise'?
Even if If a person had complained, why would the waitress take it upon herself to come over to us and ask that we keep our baby's noises down when they are just 2 years old in high chairs?!
Despite us telling our twins "ssh" , they were still enjoying themselves playing their vocal games as they don't understand social etiquette like that yet. I asked the waitress if she would like to talk to our babies and ask them to be quite. I mean, how ridiculous!
We stayed for a shorter period of time then we would have done and when I passed the nearest family, I apologised for the'noise' and they replied with a friendly "no need to apologise! " Which made me question the genuinity of the waitress's words.
The impact of the waitress' words was that it made us feel unwelcomed and unaccommodated for. What if our children had special needs and their vocalisations were at an all time high? A parent would feel heavily discriminated against???
The waitress ought to have managed the complaint. Not managed the noise from 2 year olds. Common sense would tell you that!
It negatively impacted the vibe of the rest of our meal and we will not be dining back...
Read moreWent here earlier this evening for a birthday meal, the place was pretty much empty at the time, but we just sat around for 23 minutes before someone finally bothered to come to us to ask for a drinks order!
I normally enjoy either the mixed grill or the bird surf and turf; and today I ordered the bird surf and turf, but to be told that they were out of Rump steak, not offering an alternative cut of beef instead, so I myself asked as they said earlier they had sirloin, but which was completely refused, so I had to settle for a chicken dish, which wasn’t nice at all and sickly sweet.
My wife ordered the ribs which was cooked but full of jelly/soft fats. The wings that came with the same meal were over cooked and very tough to bite. Others such as the chips, slaw, corn on the cob were tasteless.
The salad bar was also shocking, empty containers, repetitive salads in more than one container, the “creamy slaw” was just dry rotten shreds of leaves and carrots nothing else.
Halloumi fries were also over cooked, the batter was full of oil.
The only decent thing I enjoyed was the one pint of beer I had, but I could’ve had that anywhere, so not willing to rate any higher than one star.
It’s a shame, as I use to visit this place regularly some years back and it was amazing back then, but standards have unfortunately dropped a great deal, so I would not come here again and wouldn’t be recommending it to...

Simple food works great for families with children. My 2 year old loves it there, be it breakfast, lunch, or dinner, there's so much on offer for kids. You will need that when you have children whilst dining out.
Revised review on 16 June 2024:
5 years later, the quality of the service has gone downhill so much that we very rarely come to this brunch now.
Website states breakfast till 12pm. I booked breakfast at 11.30, from the meal time slot. We arrived, and they told us they stopped serving breakfast at 11.30. Why then allow the customer to book the breakfast mealtime for 11.30?
They have been telling this to customers for years now when clearly the website booking and timing say otherwise. So today, I decided to challenge that and how swiftly they served us breakfast!
Simple drinks menu for breakfast, the website PDF, and the online menu says, a pot of tea. This means it is a teapot full of tea where you get a few servings . I've been getting that for every breakfast I went there.
This morning, I was given one mug of tea and tried to charge me for another cuppa. And the fuss was mad over a pot of tea.
Father's Day - not the best experience.
Sorry, there is no service charge. I'm not coming back here.
P.S. a bit of advice - recruit responsible and more number of staff who would actually own up the service times and the...
