Upon arrival, we informed the staff that we had a Groupon voucher for our group. We were advised to notify the waitress, which we did. When asked what was included, we were told the voucher included the carvery, no other information was provided about portion size nor were we asked what voucher we had. At the carvery we were asked if we wanted “normal or extra large” portions. We went for 3 normal & 1 extra large. I enquired with the chef about the specifics of the Groupon, but he was unsure. It was clear that the food was for the children in front of him, and they were allowed to order as they wished. When the waitress arrived at our table with drinks, she would have noticed the size of the plates our children were using. She waited until they had finished eating before asking which Groupon we were using. We clarified that it was for 2 adults & 2 children. She pointed out the children’s plates were not the correct size. I was shocked by the lack of clarity, especially since we had been upfront from the start. The waitress reassured us that it would be fine, so we assumed she understood that she should have told us on arrival to request children’s portions. However, when we went to pay, we faced the same issue. The woman processing our payment, who by the way met us on arrival and was also informed of the voucher told us the plates the children used were not covered by the Groupon. I reiterated that we had made our voucher clear from the start, both to her, the waitress and the chef. It was clearly a deliberate attempt to overcharge us, as they waited until the end to raise the issue. I am very disappointed, as this experience felt misleading and manipulative. I have no trust in returning. Once it became clear I was not going to fall for the manipulation, they tried to make it look like they were doing me a favour by not overcharging. We paid for our drinks, the difference for the extra large portion which was expected and the voucher covered the normal size carvery’s. If you choose to dine here, make sure you confirm the portion size covered by your Groupon, as they won’t inform you and may attempt to...
Read moreI would like to begin by stating that this is not my initial visit to the restaurant. While the staff has consistently been delightful, and the food has been enjoyable, a recent experience has altered my perception. During my visit today, around 6:30 PM, a substantial queue had formed, which is not unusual. However, I was disappointed by the apparent treatment of the staff, specifically the individual responsible for carving. I recognized her from a previous visit; she is a pleasant woman, though not particularly young. She was stationed outside carving for an extended period without assistance. As the queue grew, no support was provided. Upon inquiry, I learned she was the sole carver. Furthermore, she was not offered water, and I overheard her expressing a need to use the toilet, which she was unable to do due to the crowd and lack of coverage. This issue was also present during my prior visit, where the same individual was cutting the meat alone for a significant duration. I am concerned about her well-being and the lack of care demonstrated towards her, as this is the second instance of this occurring. . The culinary professional was clearly under duress, striving to maintain consistent food availability within the kitchen environment. The operational strain was evident. It is recommended that the company re-evaluate its staffing practices to ensure adequate support for its employees. As a patron, the extended wait time due to insufficient assistance was noticeable. The management team's performance in this instance is questionable. Prior experience within the industry underscores the importance of prioritizing staff well-being over financial gain. It is hoped that future visits will reflect improved conditions. Should these concerns persist, escalation to the relevant authorities, such as the GLAA, will be considered. The quality of the food and the attentiveness of the waitstaff are acknowledged. While the establishment is recommended, any further instances of observed mistreatment of the staff should be reported...
Read moreFirst time here and to be honest, we won't be back in a hurry. Based on our experience, the 4* overall rating on google was very misleading.
When we first arrived we were told it was a 10 minute wait for a table which was fine, only 25 minutes later we still weren't seated, while others who came in well after us were being seated. The atmosphere itself was absolute chaos. Its a Sunday afternoon, most likely your busiest day, we get it, but there was absolutely no control over what was going on.
The food itself was great, aside from the kids meal. Our 9 year old ordered the mac and cheese from the mains section of the kids menu. When it arrived we thought it was a joke. A tiny little side bowl that wouldn't have filled up a 2 year old, let alone a 9 year old. Unless you're going to increase the portion size, this should not be under mains on the kids menu, it was barely a starter. The carvery however was lovely, could not fault it. Just such a shame about everything else. The beef in particular was gorgeous.
Cleanliness was a BIG problem. In both the womens and the mens toilets. It's no exaggeration when I say there was actual sht smeared all over the place. In the mens it was all over the back of the toilets (how that happened is baffling), our son didn't even use the toilets and opted to hold it till we got home. Much the same in the womens toilets. Actual sht stains on the side walls of one of the cubicles and on the back of the door. Quite sickening to be honest.
I felt quite sorry for our young server. He was doing his best but was clearly overwhelmed and could have done with a hand.
Quite honestly the most stressful dining experience I think we may have ever had.
There's a hell of a lot of improvement...
