Coffee was almost cold and overpriced for a small takeaway latte. Hake and chips for £15 you would expect a decent sized portion of chips but underwhelming, chips and fish were extremely greasy. The cheesy chips portion size was much better at £5 still a bit expensive as the chips were not good quality potatoes, excluding the usual cheese fat they were also greasy and the basic cheap pre grated cheese had a good smell but little flavour. Not good value or quality hence the low rating. Also the restaurant was ‘fully booked’ yet seemed empty at the time, felt like we weren’t welcome as we are not the posh type they seemed to want to cater for.

I'm super reluctant to leave a positive review here in case other people find out about it. The **BEST** seafood I've ever had in my life. It's not swanky dining; you can park your bum on a wooden bench and be pleased about it! The super fresh food, and for that matter the view out to sea, more than makes up for the lack of candelabras. If I could take away a star (and I won't) it would be for the perilous journey there along single track roads so narrow and poorly marked that rolling a stone down one would kick off Indiana Jones's PTSD. Try the scallops and thank me later.

My friend and I got a take away from Britannia at the Beach. While the food was mostly good (we ordered fish and chips and a cheese and chutney sandwich) it was wildly overpriced for the quality and portion. The fish was fresh but the oil in which the fried food is cooked smelt old and left an unpleasant after taste. The cheese sandwich, which was made with tasty ingredients, cost a whopping £6.50 and was served in a triangular sandwich box - no thrills or extras for the price. Overall, we felt ripped off and disappointed.

Food was average for such eateries and by no means cheap as a Covid take out goes.

Lost a star through the post checkout experience. To save you the embarrassment of feeling like some kind of social Covid leper and having a staff member bawling across the street, avoid the seating area across the road labelled and roped off as Britannia. Apparently amongst the sea of blurb on the signs it's for bookings only.

All I knew was I didn't want to drop £35 worth of, fish chips and scampi (3 portions) with 3 sunkiss orange drinks, one with some kind of foreign object floating in it, on the road. So a quick scan of the signs seemed all was well.

Simple mistake in changing times, easily avoided and could have been managed without unnecessary embarrassment.

One simple bold sign, "BOOKINGS ONLY AREA", or maybe a polite chat rather than a public display. Still Bravo all the same, you lost any future custom.

SO... customers, Please use the picnic tables just a little further down for the great unwashed for all the Britannia eat out customers who aren't in the know.

Made me kind of mad I didn't strike up a fuss about my sunkissed orange now.

A great shame as this is a great hidden gem of a beach area accessible only via tight country lanes.

The public conveniences just down the road (not part of the Britannia) are nothing short of disgusting on our visit. I make mention of this here as in reality visitors to this resort and eatery may require them.

So to do.. clean the toilets someone, Britannia sort your signage, and keep your floaters to yourselves, this location and eatery would be 3 or4 stars maybe.

In all honesty I'd just go to Torcross in future which we did earlier in our break, better food, spotless public toilets but you will have to pay...

Indifferent experience. I don’t get the fuss.

Arrived, trying to see if we could sit inside. “No” came the only interaction with the in-house staff.

No matter, we’ll get a takeaway. The lady in the cubicle was indifferent, spent most of her time on her phone.

Fish was bland and overcooked. No seasoning used. Chips were the same - no seasoning, but at least well cooked. There was no salt on the outside condiment station, only vinegar. The batter, for the fish, was a grease-fest and only tasted of oil (while leaving fingers covered in oil - because they don’t provide cutlery for takeaway - they also seem to not provide serviettes, which seem required given the aforementioned grease). Worse than that it tasted of oil that had been sat around for a few days, tasting very dark.

Wildly overpriced for the lack of real quality. Curry Sauce was £2.80 for a pot and you could see the branded bottle used for the curry sauce lying around in the kitchen. “Homemade” tartare sauce tastes only of mayonnaise.

Completely overpriced...

The Britannia at the beach prides itself on its fresh local catch, and as we walked in to order the John Dory that was in the chiller looked so fresh it could almost say hello. The small restaurant area was fully booked (phone in advance if you want a table) so we grabbed a take out fish and chips. The chefs are very hard working and have a tiny kitchen space, one of them gave us our meals through a little window outside, apologising for the "delay' (7 minutes from ordering to arrival, on a busy sunny evening, everything freshly cooked to order, none of your fish and chip shop keeping it warm malarkey here) we grabbed our bulging take away boxes and found a suitably sunny place on the beach. Delicious fish and chips, comments between mouthfuls of fish exclaimed that it was the best fish and chip we'd had. The Britannia at the Beach is so much more than fish and chips though. You'll find the best of the local catch here. Well worth a visit. Nom nom, and if I may be so bold as to...
