We were so lucky to have the Cricket run the bar and catering for our wedding at the Grain Store in June 2024. The team were a pleasure to deal with from beginning to end. They did everything they could to put us at ease and handle all the finer details of the day so that we could relax and enjoy the party. The food was AMAZING - many of our guests said it was the best wedding food they'd ever had (even one of our friends who is a chef was raving about the canapes!). We opted for an outdoor BBQ feast with sharing sides for dinner, and hotdogs for evening food which went down a storm. The bar was also very well stocked and run by the team to keep the drinks flowing throughout the evening. The service was seamless which was impressive to see for a room of >100 guests. I am coeliac and the team were able to make the entire wedding gluten free, which was amazing and made me feel very at ease - whilst going largely unnoticed for our non-GF guests! I would not hesitate to recommend the Cricket for wedding/event catering. My family have been coming to the pub for as long as I can remember whenever we are in Beesands, and now it has an even more special place in our hearts. Thank you to Scott, Adam and the whole team!

We’ve eaten previously at The Cricket Inn in 2023 and booked again to make sure we could enjoy the fresh, local and superbly cooked sea food once again. The pub, and the stories of the Beesands fishing families, make it even more special. To be able to enjoy real local food and learn about the families past and present make it authentic. So good to be able to support the community by eating, drinking and sharing the atmosphere. The Cricket Inn is a gem. The food and service were excellent - again!! I thoroughly recommend purchasing a copy of Roger Stones ‘Beesands - a history of the village and its people’ A superb read that introduces you the fishing lives; tough times, war years, Brixham trawler battles…etc , and the families such as the Steers who are so important past and present (for sale in the Cricket Inn) Thanks The Cricket Inn and Beesands - we will be back 😃 Jon, Denise, Mollie, Nick, Eliza and Flora

We were touring the Cornwall and Devon coast staying at Pubs/inns as we went. No planning just winging it. We found Beesands after a recommendation from my sister and we decided to stay there for my wife’s 60th Birthday. Upon arrival the staff at the Cricket INN were so friendly and helpful. After chatting we decided to stay and the decision turned out to be one of the highlights of our tour! The room had a spectacular view of the Ocean and was the cleanest and most comfortable out of all the Pubs we had stayed at. The food was amazing, tasty, plentiful and great value. The waitress was so nice and they helped us celebrate with a lovely dessert and sang Happy Birthday. All in all could not have picked a better place to stay! PERFECT!!!!. The scenery and walks are spectacular and we had the nicest weather. If you ever tour Cornwall and Devon you need to stay at the Cricket INN you will not be sorry!!!!!

This was our second stay at the Cricket Inn, and it was mostly good. We booked three nights on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis.||It was quite hard for me getting up the stairs to our room (The Oval), but once there it was light and bright with plenty of room to put stuff. It also had the all-important walk-in shower – sadly I can sadly no longer clamber in and out of over-bath showers. The wide window seat provides a great place for watching the sea just across the road.||The hotel is justly famous for its food. Sadly, dinner on the first night was not the restful experience we had been looking forward to all day. We waited some time for our order to be taken, then some more time for the starters to arrive. My husband had chicken liver pâté with some little round brioche loaves, which he said was very good; I had cauliflower velouté. The bowl it was in was warm, but the contents were hardly warm at all; perhaps it had been prepared in the microwave. After the starters were cleared we waited... half an hour, before eventually asking what had happened to our mains. As if by magic they appeared; could they have been sitting on a hot plate? Other people who had ordered after us were served before us, etc. This was all very disappointing, as the mains when they came were actually very good – I had vegetarian arancini and my husband had a whole turbot (one of the day's specials.) We did receive an apology, and a reduction in the price of our (very good) bottle of wine, but still...||Breakfast was good, though it should be, as they have won awards for it. My husband had the 'full English' (or most of it – unlike me, he is not a fan of black pudding.) I had a waffle with bacon and maple syrup. We could also have chosen smoked salmon bagel, kippers, etc. Orange juice wasn't freshly squeezed, but perhaps that would be too much to hope for? The weather was warm enough to sit by the open door of the restaurant, facing the sea, which was very pleasant. The breakfast waitress is the best thing about this hotel; she is cheerful and enthusiastic, and always welcomed us with a ready smile.||The restaurant seems very popular, and people clearly come from some distance to eat here, as Beesands is not exactly on the way to anywhere. The building has quite a history which is worth exploring, and I liked the changing display of old photographs on the screen in the restaurant – they include processions of children in their Sunday best, and elderly fishermen proudly displaying their catch of giant skate.||On to our second night. At first everything seemed to be going swimmingly with our dinner; we ordered just main courses (because starters seemed to confuse them), and the meals came out pretty quickly – ahead of some other diners who had ordered before us (not so good.) We were asked if we'd like desserts, we said yes, we were given menus, and then we waited... and waited... After about 25 minutes someone came to take our order (most of the staff seemed mysteriously to have disappeared by that point, and those that remained were totally focused on clearing away glasses.) My husband commented that there seemed to be something seriously wrong with their system. As before, after we had complained the desserts appeared very rapidly. But I just don't like having to complain; it spoils my dinner. The (fish) specials did not change during the three nights we were staying.||On the third night a miraculous transformation took place! It was a largely different team and everything went brilliantly; no waiting around, everything was proactive, from the jug of iced water being brought without asking, and on throughout the meal. So a happy ending to this...

We have now come down to earth after our wedding celebrations on Friday July 12th, 2024, and now feel in the right frame of mind to right an honest review about The Cricket Inn in Beesands||We feel we should mention the following:||The Cricket Inn is now an extended and established public house in Beesands overlooking Start Bay. Serving local ales, delightful wines and delicious food served by affable, cordial and sociable crew.||There is accommodation too. 7 New England style rooms. Doubles and Family rooms which are light and airy as well as being clean and comfortable with essential items, coffee machine, iron and ironing board. and most have a sea view. We stayed in The Botham suite which suited the Bride and Groom perfectly. A few good friends stayed in the remaining rooms and were delighted with their accommodation. We all had breakfast and enjoyed traditional and continental styles and a wide choice of cooked breakfast. You will not be disappointed.|||Build up|When we decided to have our wedding celebration lunch and supper we had a meeting with Scott Heath, the owner/Head Chef, and Adam Warren, Front of House manager, and my partner to discuss the arrangements for the day.|Numerous menu options were offered to suit our budget and for our 80 guests. Which included vegetarians and vegans. As well as a few fussy eaters. They were able to come up with a delicious range of food options to fit within our budget||On the day|Adam and his team rearranged tables to our table plan. This enabled our florist Wild About Flora to dress the interior with a coastal theme of flowers. The wedding table was set, and space arranged for the disco and lighting to be set too.|||Our top cake and 120 cups cakes by Bella Dolci’s Flavours were delivered in boxes to the Cricket on the day and Adam’s team unpacked and displayed them beautifully on the Wedding Table.||The cricket has a flat screen at each end of the pub which as first seemed a problem but no, as we were able to share some scenic photos of our adventures on the beaches of Start Bay. Jonah was able to edit the timings for this slide show as we did not have the technology to do so,|There are 15 outside tables which were dressed in flowers around the parasols poles. The pub also had Olive trees and Hydrangeas fronting the building which are now a permanent feature.|We were able to erect signage inside and outside the building.|All tables place names, menus and QR code cards all set ready for our guests.|I must mention the luxurious toilets too. Fully refurbished with sea themed granite tiles. Spotlessly clean and cubicles are wide enough for anybody even with a wedding dress on. There is also a disabled toilet.||||Service|The quality of the food on the day was excellent and this was borne out by all the comments made by our guests. In addition, three courses were served extremely efficiently by the waiting staff and cleared away with minimal disruption.||Conclusion|There was nothing they couldn’t do for us on the day. They made us feel so special.|With all the love from our guests and the sunshine. It was a perfect day.||We highly recommend The Cricket Inn for any special occasion or just for lunch or dinner. We have always had a good friendly relationship from this establishment since we moved...
