Just had a long awaited visit to the Church House Inn and was much looking forward to it. A lovely looking little place, very quaint. It turned out to be a very disappointing experience. The menu was limited but you accept that as it is a small place. We had a table for 2 next to the "dead cat" which was right on top of another couple. This would be acceptable had the place been full but it wasn't. The meal was only OK in my opinion but my partner enjoyed his chicken mushroom and leek pie. We ordered pudding, my partners treacle sponge pudding came out as sticky toffee, so they rectified that. My chocolate chip pudding had no chocolate chips in it and wasn't very nice. When the boy returned with the treacle sponge I queried the lack of chocolate chips and he said, I don't know, I don't eat it!! When we went to the bar to pay the bill, I just mentioned the lack of chocolate chip to the Landlord, thinking they could at least change the description on their menu, so he asked the lady that had just arrived out of the kitchen who said that's how they come in, as chocolate chip, so we said well it should be advertised as chocolate sponge to which she got quite stroppy and said very rudely, oh just give her her money back. Charming!! Needless to say we wouldn't be in any rush to go back. The other major thing for me was the ladies toilet, it was terrible, outside and up some steps but it's an old building so you accept this, but inside was awful, old wooden toilet seat with varnish worn away, high level black cistern with no decent handle to pull chain, you really wouldn't have used it if you didn't have to. The light didn't work and the cover was missing so you could see the bare lamp. Not much money needed to make it more...
Β Β Β Read moreWe booked a table on 7th September at 6.30 to celebrate my birthday. (There are only 2 pubs in the village but we loved the old traditional pub hence why we booked here). We arrived earlier and enjoyed a drink before our meal. The staff were extremely helpful (two young ladies behind the bar and 1 young gentleman who brought out the food). We ordered gammon and lamb shank. The food was excellent and cooked to perfection. For dessert we ordered apple and blackberry crumble and treacle pudding. Again these were excellent. We cannot fault the food - piping hot and very well presented. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and they clearly enjoy working here and chatting to the customers etc. (They even wished me Happy Birthday π). We did leave a tip as we were very happy with the service and food. The staff were so grateful (sounds like not many leave tips which is a shame as its a tough job in hospitality). I would highly recommend this pub and you will not be disappointed. Thank you Church House Inn staff for making my birthday so special. Will definitely be back if we are staying in Stoke Gabriel in the future. Keep up the...

We walked in to a cozy and very welcoming pub, dinning area with loads of antiques on display. The owners and staff were very attentive and made us feel very welcome we could have stayed for hours! We had the fisherman's pie each one with salad and wedge bread other with chips, side chips and sticky toffee pudding. The food was delicious π. We will...
