We had a lovely lunch at The River Shack in the sunshine today.. it’s a lovely spot right on the water in full crabbing territory.. lovely menu which caters well for vegetarians and GF aplenty. Well worth booking (very easy process online from their website) as it does get busy at peak times and on sunny days. It’s a very dog-friendly place which is always appreciated with water available for all sizes! Staff were super friendly and accommodating. Car park is literally on the doorstep and on the water’s edge so ideal if you’re not wanting to walk too far. It’s £5 a day to park during the summer months. Stoke Gabriel is beautiful for a walk around and there are tons of opportunities to get on the water or delight the little ones with a good haul of crabs! We paid £25 for a couple of salads and a delicious home made orange lemonade with an Americana coffee which is not unreasonable although there are one or two pricy dishes on the menu. It’s also an excellent venue for breakfast and dinner and apparently the ice cream is delicious. There’s also an excellent cake selection although we refrained from both! Will definitely return and get something...

Hello just had an amazing stay in Stoke Gabriel & wanted to let people know about The River Shack. Absolutely gorgeous restaurant. This comes with a big thank you to Will the manager & his team. We had many hot drinks (latte to die for😊) cake(especially coffee cake, delicious) I believe made locally. On the Friday night we had a new dish plaice baked in fennel, sautéed kale & new potatoes cooked in butter & garlic, the fish was probably the best I have ever had- melt in the mouth. We followed this with white chocolate cheesecake & plum/blackberry crumble with clotted cream, lush. We finished with the cheeseboard very, very good cheeses & another latte😁. Prosecco was chilled to perfection. Gracie attended our table, lovely girl, very thorough, smiley & knew all about our dishes we ordered. Will was very attentive as he had been the whole week. Also would like to thank Char, Meg & Amy for delicious food. Should add here very competitive prices, great value. In times like these, we were made to feel so comfortable & at ease with the social restrictions in place. YOU MUST VISIT WILL & HIS STAFF AT THE...

We booked supper on a Friday evening. When we arrived we used the toilets and they were filthy! We flagged this to staff and they apologised but said the responsibility for the toilets did not lie with them but instead lay with the "car park people"?! Secondly, we were waiting by the sign that says 'wait here to be seated' for 5 mins plus, despite numerous members of staff going past us! When I went inside to find a member of staff I was informed someone would be out In a few minutes (no apology) - I had already waited more than a few mins! When someone did come out to seat us, we were greeted with 'sorry guys wasn't sure if you were waiting or not as you were standing to the side'- we were standing in front of the wait here sign! We were seated, but were then presented with the very limited menu- of burgers, pasta or pizza. We were expecting local fish or seafood given the sample menu online. Needless to say, at this point, having not even placed a drinks order we decided to leave. Disappointing all round, especially given a previous positive experience here. Will not be...

2022- Really excellent situation right on the river, very friendly staff and delicious coffee. However, beware the £5 all-day parking, which is a little steep for a 1hr visit! But, the fewer cars in such an idyllic village the better, it’s true… 2024- returned today and breakfast of spicy taco with beans, tomatoes etc was just the trick. My wife had the full English and said the egg yolks in particular were bright orange and delicious. Parking this time (out of season) was only £3 👌🏼 The husband-wife owners of the River Shack are great to chat to and clearly very hands on and passionate about what they do. Photos attached taken today (13/09/24). Thanks!

Beautiful waterside cafe serving fresh local food. They also offer lots of gluten free choices & are very dog friendly. It gets really busy so recommend booking a table. Otherwise you may just have to make use of their takeaway food & drink options. Word of warning - it is very easy to get lost in the village & some lanes are extremely narrow to drive through. Once in the village centre, turn up the road with the Post Office on your right then take next left. You will eventually get to the bottom of the hill & the cafe & parking will be on the left. All day parking costs £5.
