Absolutely love this quirky pub, what a great place to stay. Tim was a great host. The room was lovely and clean and tidy and very comfy, Tim made up the sofa bed just before we arrived to make it more comfy for two friends staying together. I loved the vintage pieces of furniture, gave the room character. The food was cooked to order, fresh and very tasty. We had a cooked breakfast each morning, a fish and chips one evening and were lucky to be there for the quiz night to taste the delicious curry. The pub is untouched by clinical modernisation and has lots of crazy quirky collections about the pub, I found them interesting and lots of fun. There is a pool table, and out the back a small courtyard. The owner and all his staff we came into contact were lovely and friendly, we felt like we belonged. When we come again we will definitely be choosing to stay at the Royal Oak. Thank you for a very enjoyable stay 😁👍

7 of us stayed for the weekend in all three rooms and had a lovely time. The pub is cosy and friendly, very local to beautiful Hope Cove and Salcombe. Walking distance to a handy Asda, easy free local parking, and a good old pool table to entertain us in the evenings. Comfy beds, hot showers, great beer and wine and a fabulous Sunday roast.

Let's start by saying the food was fine, but not as pictured on the website. The website says the menu changes daily but this is clearly not the case, see photo of painted blackboard. Staff friendly and welcoming, food was good value, just not what we expected.

To start with, the pictures used to advertise are many many years out of date.|| The pub is dirty, with piles and piles of stuff everywhere. We declined breakfast as didn't feel that it would be clean enough to eat there as well as the host being unsure what time it may be available.||Dispite checking in online at 4, the host, when finally contacted informed us he wouldn't open for at least another half hour, leaving us waiting in the car outside. ||I also feel that the 'art' hung particularly in the bedrooms was inappropriate and vulgar as it depicted naked women in various poses, none artistic, not great for a family room to say the least. ||The bed sheets were frayed, curtains sun bleeched and the remote unspeakable, good job the T.V didn't work anyway! ||The only thing that can be said that is positive is that the shower was hot. ||After discovering the pub for what it was, we spent hours trying to find somewhere else to stay but unfortunately as it was Easter weekend everywhere was booked up. Had it not been for disappointing our children we would have travelled home and not stayed for our...

The Royal Oak is brilliant. This is a proper, proper independent pub, kitchen and bed & breakfast. It remains how rustic, traditional pubs used to look. There’s not many like this left anymore - This place is genuine. ||I’m so glad I chose to stay here instead of booking a boring, strict and expensive Air B&B. This place has way more character and is so humbly priced.||My room upstairs was newly fresh, clean, immaculate. The food was top notch too. Having worked in kitchens myself, I knew a lot of care had been put into it. ||The staff were incredibly considerate and kind to folks beyond their call of duty. They might not know how grand they’re treating you because to them, it’s just a shrug of the shoulders. Tim, the landlord and his staff are really cool folks.||The Royal Oak sometimes have great live music on certain days too, so ask them when that’s happening or when it isn’t. ||If you ever find yourself in Salcombe, or anywhere in Devon for that matter - Drink, eat and stay here. ||I can’t praise this...
