UPDATED REVIEW: This pub has now been completely refurbished after being closed for sometime but unfortunately what has prolonged the closure was Covid 19.
The Great News is that this pub has now officially reopened from 2nd of October 2020 with a complete overhaul and New Look. Personally I've not lived in Benson Village for very long, however this is my local pub and I didn't know what it was like beforehand, however on looking at the old photographs (which now need updating) I felt impelled to take some New Photos while I was there for others to see, thanks to Debbie & Miles.
Very Clean Looking pub and has that lovely fresh atmosphere about it. I cannot comment on the food that this place serves because I didn't eat here (yet!) that said from what I saw coming out the kitchen, did look very nice and well presented. Found the staff very friendly with positive attitude. (Its also very cosy in places)
Entrance to this pub is at the Rear of the pub (not the front) Wheelchair accessible with car parking at the rear, also large patio area with more tables and chairs, (I can imagine this is lovely in the summer) Toilets are immaculate.
I've rated this pub 5-star but don't take my word for it, go see for yourself, I can assure you, you won't be disappointed.
I will endeavour to do another review later, once I have eaten here!...so look...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIf you want quiet, this is NOT the place for you. The rooms are over the pub, which is a VERY noisy one. The noise was really bad. Thump thump of āmusicā until quite late, people shouting and yelling. Fine when it went quiet, almost no traffic noise. But if you want to bed down early, (for me this is 10.30ish) this is not a good place to stay. Rooms are clean, but a bit old and worn, and really need decorating. Many years since they got done. The lady sorting out the rooms was lovely, upgraded me f.o.c. to a big double to help me dry out my soaking gear. But sheās a bit scatty. Couldnāt get the cooker going, so there was no cooked breakfast, just toast and cereal. (She dropped the price by a tenner.) And then just before I left 9.30am, I needed to go to the local shop. She was having a cuppa and told me she was there for a good while and the back door would be open with her still there. Just 10 minutes later I returned and sheād gone, place all locked up solid, no way in til they reopened lunchtime. Fortunately I managed to find a local who knew the code to the back door. Really nice lady running the Crown, but scatty as a box of frogs. Quite cheap there ā thatās why I chose it, but not worth it. Just too rough. A bit more will get you a much...
Read moreBooked a one night Groupon for £69 ,incl b/fast and wine.Unfortunately the place is AGAIN changing managers middle next week so some facilities were restricted. No b/fast unless prepared to walk 1/2 mile to a cafe, pay and get a refund .Thanks but didn't bother. The published menu was replaced with a 1 page limited selection. Came with a bottle of mediocre free bottle of wine. Starter king prawns good but calamari served in soup bowl with a strange sauce. The mussels main course they were very small consequently overcooked but served with plenty of fries. Now the moan: Kitchen closed without warning at 9.00pm therefore no coffee or pudding. No wonder they were nearly empty.Room 6 was large with a big bathroom but strange noise from toilet when flushed. The 60 inch tv had it's own thoughts on channels and when used remote to access ordinary terrestrial channels connected to adult options !!!. Large 5ft bed but mattress was in need of replacing due to being very 'springy ' Anyway the existing staff were very helpful and the locals were very welcoming. All in All good value considering the management is leaving, shame, they seemed ideal. Ps book room 6 if visiting ,very...
