Second time this has happened to me so I’ve felt the need to leave a review. Aa usual I’ve pre ordered and waited for my large fish and medium fish n chips. It’s a Friday night so it’s busy as usual and no issues waiting 30 mins or so to collect. However in those 30 mins I watched the staff call our orders and as customers collected they’re asked how many tartar sauces they would like? Some refused any and others would take up the kind offer and take 3 etc. In my mind I was thinking that’s nice as they’ve clearly changed their policy, I remember ordering a large fish which I share with my young sons and 2 sauces would be ideal, however when I asked last time I was abruptly told it’s one sauce per fish, regardless of the size. That was a few months ago so I presumed that policy had changed as I watched for 30 mins customers get asked how many tartar sauces they would you like. So you could imagine my surprise as I didn’t get the kind offer of more and then got given only 2 sauces for my large and regular fish. I then asked could I please have one more for the large fish? And then was told in front of a busy shop it’s only 1 sauce per fish and it’s 30p for extra ones? I didn’t want to cause a scene and say why wasn’t I asked like EVERY other customer how many sauces would I like? It’s fine if that’s the policy but at least keep it consistent instead of making me feel the way I did in front of a busy shop full of customers. I noticed other people have left reviews with similar experiences so even though I called back to explain my experience, the manager apologised as he said it was a training issue. That’s fine but when you’ve had people leave similar reviews which has resulted in them stating they’ll never return again, you’d think they’d address it. Clearly they’re too busy to care about the odd regular customer that may never return, but they’ve got another tonight as I’ll won’t be returning. I don’t want to say there’s an undertone of racism but I can’t help after 2 experiences of...

No ice provided in their 30°C indoor heat during the current heatwave. Don't be that profit-driven. Just have the courtesy to offer. Especially as tap water is kept at room temperature, likely waiting in jugs for hours to be served. No fan. No a.c.
Tragically irregular portion size for a "medium/regular" cod (pic) - disproportionate each time. The children get served this as part of their kids' meals. But, i pay close to £20 for the same piece we have witnessed in the kids plates. Not filling - unless you're an employee and eats at a hefty discount in which case having 3 to 4 of these would have you filled.
We left early with food unfinished as i felt faint, and party were concerned i was looking unwell with obvious signs of heat exhaustion.
We noticed as we left that another table were provided ice. Clearly they have it! How disconnected can a business get when the staff themselves are complaining about the heat upstairs?! Likely being selective/withholding to cut costs.
We spent in the region of £70/80 and travelled 80 minutes to get there. How much should we have spent to be offered ice with our warm water?
Won't be returning again due to lack of consideration for customers from management, most likely; lack of uniformity in food, and lack of empathy in their response.
Not what it used to be. A far cry from Harrisons in Oxford. You’ll get a WHOLE side, not one that's been sliced, diced and...
Read moreFound myself in the area, stomach rumbling, so I did what any modern-day adventurer does—consulted the oracle (Google) for a chippy with a 4.5+ rating. This place popped up and happened to be on my route home. Fate? Not quite.
Ordered the cod. It was decent—crispy, tasty, no complaints on flavour—For what they’re charging, I expected a fish that could at least fill the length of the largish box. Solid 3/5.
The chips… well, let’s just say they’ve clearly been doing pilates. Thin, a bit shy on portion size, and not the hearty chippy chips I know and love—2/5 for them.
Gravy and pickled onion? Surprisingly good. Reliable sides that didn’t try to reinvent the wheel—4/5.
Now, I’ve eaten fish & chips in over 100 spots across the UK (some good, some traumatic), so I like to think I’ve earned my vinegar stripes. This place felt a bit all over the shop—walk-ins, eat-ins, collections, and somewhere in the middle was me, wondering if I’d accidentally joined a flash mob. Bit of a wait, too.
Shoutout to the lovely lady on the right-hand side of the counter—cheerful, helpful, and the only part of the experience that didn’t feel like organised chaos.
All in all, not the worst, not the best. More of a “been there, done that, still hungry” kind of vibe. Would I be back? Probably not. Unless it’s just for the gravy and a chat with the...
