Today was my first time visiting this lovely place, having read other reviews i decided to give it a try so after dropping the children off at Alton Towers closeby i stopped here to have some breakfast. What an amazingly magical place! The outdoor seating area was perfect and although it was absolutely pouring with rain everywhere was really well sheltered. There i was sat on my own enjoying my breakfast and cup of tea taking in the surroundings and astoundingly beautiful scenery when a gentleman who the restaurant had arranged arrived to play his guitar for the customers. He was a super lovely chap and we had a little chat and he began to play. When i tell you that the music he played was nothing short of pure perfection and fitted perfectly with the ambiance. The rain in the background and the sounds of the birds and wildlife just made my morning. I literally could have fallen asleep listening to him it was beautiful, so much so that to show my appreciation i bought him a piece of victoria sponge to go with his coffee 😊. I will definitely be back and to anyone who reads this and knows who this chap is please tell him from me that he absolutely made my day, i had a smile on my face and still have when i think about those few moments when i was transported to another place that was peaceful and calming. 🙏 The people who have carefully restored this place from its state of disrepair have done an impeccable job. Well done. I look forward to my next visit...
Read moreRamblers Retreat: A Motorcyclist's Perfect Sunday Stop Easter Sunday provided the ideal conditions for testing out my pristine BMW motorcycle with a ride to this highly-rated coffee destination. Located approximately an hour's ride away from Sutton Coldfield, Ramblers Retreat proved to be a worthwhile journey, though the final mile might challenge four-wheeled visitors. Both main and overflow parking areas were at capacity during my visit, but as any biker knows, two wheels always find a space.
The café lived up to its reputation, serving an excellent flat white paired with a picture-perfect Victoria Sponge. Despite the busy period, I managed to secure a small table to enjoy my treats. The setting is absolutely magnificent, and the clientele - mostly dressed in hiking gear - suggested numerous walking trails in the vicinity waiting to be explored.
The popularity of this hidden gem was evident from the bustling atmosphere, though this didn't detract from its charm. The quality of both coffee and cake, combined with the stunning location, makes Ramblers Retreat a destination worth seeking out. I'm already planning a return visit with my partner, though we'll opt for a weekday morning to avoid the...
Read moreWe stopped off here on the way back from an Alton Towers drop off. The drive in isn't for the faint hearted, the majority if the lanes in are single track roads with passing bays. We were in a big SUV that took up the lane, we got caught a few times and had to do some significant reversing. That said, theres a car park as you turn into the lane and a lovely walk along the river that gets you there, so the drive isn't necessary if you enjoy a walk. Food was lovely, I had a full English and the wife had a sausage sandwich. Its very expensive though, the sausage sandwich was £9 which i felt was very expensive for a sandwich. The sausages were lovely though and it was served on a nice toasted ciabata. My only gripe after pricing is cheap sauce!
For such a pricey breakfast, personally I expect good sauce. I had brown sauce and it was a sachet of cheap sauce, the ketchup was the same brand too.
Lovely place for a quick bit of food, i didn't have a cake, but they look lovely!
Worth a go, but if you like a cheap meal, probably bot for you. I don't mind paying for good food if its good - sauce let it down though hence the...
