Yesterday was my first visit - I was blown away by the whole overall experience! The setting was lovely - walking through the cute gift shop (which we made multiple purchases from after breakfast - as they had lots that caught our eye and very well priced) When we reached the Restaurant, we were greeted with a friendly smile and a polite waitress who showed us to a lovely table, with stunning views and we were clearly told how it worked - you order at the counter when you’re ready (I hate it when you go to places and don’t know the system). I went to order and they were very accommodating with the tweaks I wished to make to our order to suit our requirements. It was early so quiet, but service was quick and efficient. The lady even made polite conversation and was interested in our plans, which made the experience feel more personal. They had plenty of options and very well priced. The Oatcake was delicious - the best I’ve ever had! 10/10! Throughout our time enjoying our breakfast we noticed how accommodating the staff were to all customers (taking group photo’s, giving options on seating locations to suit best the party size and even noticing a family arrive outside and going out to greet them and sort seating for the children, again so efficiently). We asked for directions from the gift shop and the lady there was very helpful and informative aswell as assisting us in our purchases when we needed help getting the picture off the wall. The toilets were also clean & nice to use. The whole experience was superb and all the staff were absolutely wonderful! Thank you for starting our day so well! Can’t wait to...

I was passing by with a hour or so to spare so thought I'd stop to walk the dog and grab a coffee. Parking was £2.50 for up to 2 hours.

The first thing I noticed when starting to walk was signs for "no cycles" and "Sign must be on a lead at all times", I assumed this was because I was near the play area but as I got further away and heading along a path around the reservoir these were repeated. Deciding my dog was no harm and well behaved I ignored them and let him off anyway.

After a nice walk I stopped at the visitors centre café to get a coffee and cake only to see signs stating that no dogs except guide dogs were allowed inside. I had to tie him up outside while qued I was (very slowly) served before heading outside to sit on the wet seats.

Looking around when queuing for my coffee the typical visitor attracted here was obvious. 90% of the customers were 70 plus wearing spotlessly clean light grey and cream clothing (Inc shoes) - obviously walked from the car to the café with no intention of going anywhere else. I got some looks in my muddy boots like I shouldn't be inside wearing them.

The playground looked excellent for children and I think for a family with kids and no dog it could be a great day out in the summer.

I'm disappointed with my visit here, it doesn't seem an outdoor friendly place and certainly isn't dog friendly. There's plenty of other places in the area that are far more suited to dog walking, if I'd known this before paying to park I wouldn't have...

You need to pay for parking £3.00 for 2 hours or £5.00 for all day park, the machines take both cash or cards.

The are walking paths, one is 1 mile and the other path is 4.3 miles around the reservoir. We chose to walk around the reservoir, some steep and uneven terrain. Some stunning view of the countryside and The Peak District (I think).

Today, of all days... it snowed, thanks to the tail end of Storm Ciara. After our walk around the reservoir, we dived straight into the Visitor Centre for some warmth and a bit of food but unfortunately their power was off and only half of the building was illuminated. We still managed to get a nice hot pot of tea and some hot food, the staff worked tirelessly to keep the restaurant going with limited access to power. The weather got worse, the snow kept coming down, thick and fast, the manager had no choice to close the restaurant before the untreated roads were impossible to drive home.

I would like to come again when the weather is a little warmer and see some of the wildlife around...

We found this place when once camping in leek we live one and a half hour away and like to drive up to spend the day here with our children. The restaurant is great although I did read a polite notice that had been up that they are closed for the next 6 to 8 weeks I believe. The surroundings are still worth visiting for. There are great nature walks surrounding, a park and also a hide out for nature watching. This place is great for the whole family. The nature walk has activities to do as you follow the paths. There are a number of public toilets very accessible to everyone and also hydration stations for everyone including pets.

Great place to take children especially for trying to tire them out during half term 😉 Playground and various lengths of walks to suit all abilities. Just be prepared to take a lot of change because anything over 2 hours costs £4.70 to park!! Mobility scooters can also be hired for those that need them. Walkers will benefit from welly boots and if your child enjoys puddle jumps dressing them in waterproofs will make you get your car parking value 👍 Great few hours and it'll be better during warmer months for picnics and bbqs.
