Gate of India — Restaurant in Stevenage

Just had my takeaway delivered and the driver must of been in such a rush to get home he had obviously been driving like a nutter and broke hard and my food slid off the front seat because every container was battered and leaking, soggy naan and poppadoms 🤢 Asked them to collect and refund my £21.60 the driver came back with only £20 I reminded him it was £21.60 and he said take it up with the boss.

I spoke to the boss who said he wasn't willing to refund the £1.60 as it wasn't his fault it was the drivers, then he said he would get someone to drop it off tomorrow, the next thing I know I get a call back to say under examination there is more than £1.60 worth of food missing so wouldn't be refunding! I have taken pictures of the contents of the bag and would not of touched it if...

I did not have a good experience with this restaurant - I ordered food which online stated free delivery. They called to confirm the order but told me I would now have to pay delivery. After talking with them I decided not to proceed with the order to then be told it had already been charged. I asked to speak to a manager who was too busy. I then spoke to someone who claimed to be the manager, Abdul Wahid, who was very rude, didn't let me speak and then hung up on me.

I was looking forward to eating from there, but the lack of basic customer service means I will never go there and will definitely not recommend.

If Abdul Wahid is the manager for this place, please teach him some telephone manners as well as the basic ability to speak...

Ordered and paid for a take away at 17:30 for delivery at 18:15. Food arrived over 1 hour late. It arrived cold (we had to re cook the Naan breads in the oven), and one of the curries had leaked everywhere so was only half full. Flavour of food was ok - a bit watery - but not horrendous (but definitely not impressive!). No apology from driver for being late (my daughter was so hungry she ended up eaten 3 slices of bread and butter while we waited). So many other takeaways joints in area to choose from so won’t be going back to the Gate of India. Good luck to whoever chooses to eat here and my only recommendation is that you don’t “pay in advance” - as at least you can turn the food down its it stupidly late or...
