Haven't been to a TGIs for about 10 years, will be at least the same before I go back.
Drinks: Liked the idea of their 2-4-1 cocktails but they didn't' have the ingredients to make our first 3 choices. Chose Aperol Spritz which was decent enough, Ordered the Fridays Pilsner draught beer. Decidedly unimpressive, tasted like a flat Irn Bru. Just got sweeter the more we drank, neither of us could finish them. Chocolate milk - the kids enjoyed it but they have such low standards!.
Food: Nachos - basic. Flavourless tortilla chips with flavourless cheese. Sure didn't taste like £15 worth. Friday burgers - can't quite put my finger on why it wasn't very good. Think the closest I can come up with is it was artificial. Bun was dry, burger was dry with not a drop of juice or flavour . Lettuce was tasteless and the bacon was super salty. It came with fries which were so salty it hurt to eat them. Asked for a new batch without salt but they took 20 minutes to come out by which time the burger was gone and the 5 other diners were all finished over 10 minutes previous Cajun onion rings - 1st batch were so burned that we had to send them back. Second batch 10 mins later were actually pretty tasty. Cajun chicken pasta - Mother in Law enjoyed it, said it was fresh and tasty though very salty. Kids chicken nugget and chip plus kids fish fingers and chips. Tiny portions, our 6 year old and 9 year old finished them very quickly and were still hungry. Both have since asked for more water to drink so I suspect their chips were super salty too.
£105 for 4 adult mains, 2 kids mains, 2 chocolate milks, 1.5 pints and a cocktail (actually 2 due to bogof) isn't too bad value if the food is decent. However the food here was so poor so we all left feeling a bit unsatisfied. As well as very...
Read moreSadly this was a really disappointing visit to the once great TGI Fridays. The restaurant continues to look the part and the staff were just as wonderful and bubbly as always but that did not make up for the food. TGI's was once the go to for the all American dining and hospitality experience and I should know over 20 years ago I was a door host there. However, as a nation we have embraced BBQ, Mexican fusion and American classics and what we were served was a sad imitation. The burgers were tough and tasteless, the ceasar salad was a bowl of lettuce with mayonnaise and lacked any cheese, the sweet potato fries were microwaved and the portion of fajitas was half the size it once was. The kids food was okay but how wrong can you get a hotdogs? Finally dessert....and another round of disappointment. Not only were all the new items missing but so were the brownies. It was my husbands birthday but there was no birthday cake either instead he was given a slice of cheesecake (sadly he hates cheesecake which I know is not their fault but if they had said they were out of birthday cake he might have suggested a candle adorned scoop of ice cream or the fudge cake as an alternative) as it happened my son was happy to have the cake until he like my father who ordered the same realised the cheesecake was still frozen solid and inedible. All in all the enthusiasm of the staff could not make up for the many shortcomings of the food. Gone is they heyday of Manchester United private Christmas parties and people wowed by indulgent and exciting food and instead we found a restaurant limping by, surpassed by an ever growing market and a far more discerning bbq savvy clientele who expect more for the price. I don't see myself going back...
Read moreI bought TGI ribs from Tesco a while back and decided we’d come to a restaurant to sample them too. I have no complaints about the food, everything we had was delicious and I’m absolutely stuffed now. The ribs were good and the honeycomb cheesecake was arguably the best dessert. My only real issue was with the customer service. Our waiter was Max and he was great, very friendly and helpful, but was clearly rushed off his feet during a busy period. I looked it up and the waiting staff are paid minimum wage. Given that they most likely employ students under the age of 20, that’s currently £6.83 an hour. Surely they could afford to put another couple of waiters on to help with those busy periods? At one point out mains came out of the kitchen before the waiters had had time to clear our table from the starters. Spend a little extra TGIs so that your customers have a more enjoyable experience. Either give Max a raise, because he was working a lot harder than £6.83 merits, or hire some more staff so that current staff can cope better during busy periods. I originally reviewed this as a 4 star experience but I can’t give it that given my perceived working...
