The Birches Head — Restaurant in Stoke-on-Trent

My uncle arranged a funeral wake here for my nan in 2019 and we got both rooms. This time we paid similar costs but only got one room, there wasn't enough chairs.

Not only that we had such nice food in 2019. The warm and cold food were of such high quality.

This time we paid nearly £400 at 8.50 per head for over 40 of us. There wasn't a very good selection of food. Couple of coctail sausages. The hot food was awful. Sandwiches were very basic. The pringles and food just looked like they had been bought from aldi or lidl.

Not only that we were not told the room would be required back by 7pm. We were told at 10 to 7 and they binned our food that was left rather than offer us to take it with us.

Ended up speaking to the staff about it to be told "the person who arranged it was aware it ended at 7" which isn't the case as I arranged this myself directly.

I offered her to read the messages I have for the conversation. My mother has passed away and I've had to arrange her funeral myself at just 30 years of age and to end up in almost an argument with staff is not how I wanted my mothers wake to go.

Ive had an absolutely amazing experience here, I booked the function room for a family event, had the Hot Buffet and was very impressed by the quality and quantity of food and the function room was perfect for what we needed. They had recently changed owners so I was slightly unsure at first as I didn't know if they would be well enough prepared but they really amazed me with their professionalism and organisation. It was so good that I then booked a table for Mother's Day, we sat down and had a proper meal and it was delicious! The service was lovely, the timing for everything was excellent and everyone was very attentive. Prices were good, potions were generous and it even had some personal touches! Visited this Sunday for lunch. Always been nice in the past was years ago. Microwaved food, placed order and at table within 3 minutes for a Sunday lunch. Paid extra fiver for both meats which were pork and turkey, oh you got sprouts. But they chewy and frozen not even fresh. Meat so over microwaved unable to chew, a plate full of peas, tea spoon of cabbge, tea spoon of stuffing, microwaved cheap Yorkshire. Ok was a tenner for two courses and £15 for two meats but the produce with being frozen veg was over microwaved. Dessert was supposed to be lemon sponge and custard. A dry piece of cheap cake and instant custard made with hot water. They don't do coffee so no doubt no tea either.
