Booked Afternoon Tea to celebrate Father's Day - pre-booked a couple of weeks in advance and advised that we would require a Little Gardener's Afternoon Tea done dairy free due to our 3 year old daughter having a dairy allergy, thought nothing more of this as the website states they can cater for those leading dairy free or vegan lifestyles. We arrived yesterday and the dairy allergy was noted to us before we were shown to our table and we were advised that this had been prepared for us and that the kitchen were aware but to make sure we reiterated to our server which we did. The children's boxes were then brought out and straight away we noticed that the two boxes were the same, we asked if our daughters was dairy free and the young waitress said that she wasn't sure and that it did look the same as the dairy one - we asked her to take it away to check but she told us the jam sandwiches and fruit could be left as they were fine to eat, my daughter ate most of a triangle of her sandwich when I noticed the butter, I immediately took it off her and the waitress came back to the table, I asked if the butter was dairy free to which she realised her mistake and said ''no it is dairy'' - I reiterated that she has a dairy allergy and was told ''it's only a slight covering on the bread'', this shocked me and I was taken aback by the lack of understanding of the consequences this could have had - thankfully for us we have a type 2 allergy, so rather than life threatening symptoms we have more un-comfortable stomach problems and rashes. I asked for the manager who was extremely apologetic and did his upmost to find out how this incident had occurred and kept us updated with his findings, but the day had been ruined by then and we struggled to enjoy the rest of the lunch worrying whether we were going to be dealing with projectile vomit or a poorly child at any given moment.
I hope that more training is given to staff surrounding allergy awareness as this could have quite easily have been a life threatening situation had this have happened to a type 1 allergy sufferer. Our little one had an afternoon of discomfort with a swollen and upset tummy.
I am disappointed by our experience as we do struggle to find places that provide afternoon tea for allergy sufferers and we were hoping that we had found somewhere that we could take our children to for a treat, but we are reluctant to return.
The setting and tea room itself is lovely, service other than the above complaint was ok, but we had to ask after 15 minutes of waiting where our drinks were. Atmosphere was very relaxed which is of course what you want when having an afternoon tea.
As a message to all staff please take allergies more seriously, it is a scary thought that a simple matter of mis-communication can be the difference between life and death for someone who suffers with a serious allergy. More training is required and I hope that this does not...
Read moreWould not recommend afternoon tea at Wedgwood. We went as mum and 2 daughters for a birthday treat for mum. We should have spend the money on something else instead of this.
We went to the front desk which states “please wait to be seated” About 5-6 staff wandering around the place doing nothing and not paying any attention to this front desk to check people in.
After a while, we got seated and menus chucked on the table. Never asked what drinks we would like. Sat on a table that general public walk past after their tour or walking around the gift shop. Tables should be moved or we should have been asked if this table was suitable for us.
After 20 minutes of watching even more staff just wandering around, a lady came to our table and asked us what we would like to eat.
We waited, and waited, and waited!!! For 30 entire minutes for the afternoon tea to be delivered to our table. We had 2 stands, my mum and I shared and sister had her own.
We noted that a table across the way was not occupied at all but the wandering staff placed an afternoon tea stand and cups on that table. Then low and behold…. A couple sat down at that table with their afternoon tea ready and waiting for them!
The afternoon tea is not worth £27.50, We had to ask ask ask for more of the unlimited tea, the empty cups and teapots were not taken away like other tables had once fresh was brought out.
As a born and bred Potter, I’m ashamed of Wedgwood providing this diabolical service. I will not be recommending and I certainly shall not be...
Read moreI visited World of Wedgewood a few years ago and had a lovely afternoon tea. Sadly on our second visit recently it wasn't quite up to the same standard. We visited in very cold temperatures (minus degrees outside) and the restaurant was cold - I kept my outdoor jacket on throughout the meal! (We had a painting session in the creative studio first and it was lovely and warm in there.) The food itself was lovely but the soup and tea were just hot enough - I think partly because of the cold temperatures. If they'd been pre-prepared and poured out they'd lost a lot of heat. The seats once a lovely navy velvet were dirty and stained. There was also tea stainage on one of the teacups on the table. When we were seated we asked to be moved to a more scenic table and we were told we couldn't because there was a booking on that table. I suspect the server was new and didn't know how to adjust tables as there was no-one sitting on the one we requested for the entire duration of our meal. A couple arrived just as we were paying our bill. There was a bit of a wait for the food but I didn't mind that as I was happy to chat to my friend and they apologised for the wait. If this was a cafe experience minor inconveniences would be unremarkable. But because the restaurant is marketed as a higher end experience and priced as such, the expectation is higher. I know it's expensive but if you're in hospitality you've gotta whack that heating up and replace tarnished chairs if you're presenting a high...
