We came here to meet up with some canal boating friends for lunch on a sunny (hot!) summer’s day, and were not disappointed. This is a classic pub experience, with a varied menu with plenty of classics to choose from for lunch or dinner. Portion sizes are good, and service is pretty quick – despite how busy they were when we visited. Inside is a perfect temperature on a warm day, as the building’s thick walls naturally blocked out much of the heat-wave. Afterwards, finding a table in the luscious canal-side garden under a tree for a relaxing drink and chat was a nice bonus too. Staff were friendly and helpful, and we were very pleased by our visit. If we’re in the area again, I can easily see us swinging by the Blue Lias for another visit – thanks!

Moored here overnight on my way up the flight. Nice food and beer and the service good. Interesting layout with tables set in different style 'booths' - quirky but nice. Clearly used by locals, the bar area had some interesting 'pub politics' conversations going on (putting the world to rights) - reminiscent of the days before pubs had to do food to stay in business. The locals were welcoming and friendly, as was the landlord. Sadly, my early getaway the next morning was somewhat thwarted by an empty pound a couple of locks up. However, not before the landlord, out on his morning walk, opened the gates of one the locks for me. Thank you 👍

The Blue Lias is a lovely place to visit for a relaxing drink and lunch, the food was very good along with the good service. The facilities are excellent, toilets, parking and most of all the area for outside eating which is set out alongside the canal. We had a nice and relaxed lunch while watching the narrow boats and wildlife slowly and quietly passing by. Just what we needed after the past months of restrictions, most people was adhering to the face masks and distancing rules which was nice to see.

We were camping here for the weekend. It is a lovely, well kept site with a fishing pond and the canal next to the site and a lovely shower block. I do think it is very expensive though. £30 per unit per night for 2 people with electric. This is an adult only site, they accept dogs but there is an extra charge for these and an extra charge per extra person. We went there with another couple who suggested we go to the pub for food on Saturday evening. Service was good, staff were pleasant but the food was awful. There is not alot of options for food, just basic fish and chips, scampi, lasagne, steak and stout pie which is what me and my friend had. The meat was cooked well and would pull apart but it was quite dry, there was not alot of gravy in the pie dish and there was not a bowl of gravy served with the dish so I asked for some more. It took a while to arrive, in which time the others had finished their food. We didn't stay for dessert, we went back to our caravan for vienese whirls. I think it will be a while before we go to the campsite again as there are others around that are not as expensive and I will definitely avoid the food there in the...

I was expecting a nice pub next to the river, and I am sure on a nicer day it would have been more pleasant. But today it was raining so we went inside. Pokey little place which smelled of old cooking oil. What killed it was the rudeness of the staff, well one in particular.

She came up and asked if we had reserved a table, we hadn’t, so told her we had not, there was no reserved sign on the table. “You will have to move, this table is reserved”, I said “ok” this was my recognition that I would indeed move and my happiness to do so. She repeated immediately “You have to move, sit there”, nodding to the table opposite. I repeated “Ok”, as maybe she didn’t hear me the first time. “you have to move!” she repeated again, even more agitated than before and walked off. Maybe I didn’t jump when she said it the first time, 10 seconds previously, my bad.

So we just left, leaving our drinks on the bar, unfinished.

The pub is next to a caravan park, so maybe the fact they have a captive clientele means that politeness isn’t a requirement. Avoid unless you have to go there, plenty of nicer pubs...

Little bit torn. We were really looking forward to going here as we've heard good things, the garden outside right on the canal with plenty of seating and space, with two lovely willow trees was very nice. They also have stunning floral baskets outside.

The main issues were as follows. The food was very average, I thought it would be a bit better tbh considering the veiws and the price and it let's the pub down especially considering the location it has. I had a pie and the taste was good but there was hardly any filling, the chips weren't great and so I felt a little ripped off.

Also I have to say, the inside of the pub smells mouldy, damp and the carpets were filthy. It needs a clean up and redecorating. I regretted sitting inside because it smelled dank and there was no airflow. There were also cigarette buts and dog mess in the garden, not nice especially when there's kids around. I would go again but might wait a while as I saw the pub is up for lease so I'm curious to see what happens to the place. Seems like a bit of a gold mine of a business with the...
