Fantastic food although sadly the staff and the restaurant itseft are less than satisfactory to say the least. In fact the staff don't seem to know what to do, they stood around and didn't ask if everything was okay with our food nor did they take our starter plates away for quite some time until we had to ask the manager if they could clear the table, moments later the main course arrived. Along with the starters our main courses were very tastey and both dishes were completely different in colour and sauce thickness confirming that the food was freshly prepared, both of the mains were full of flavour that intensified throughout the meal. THE FOOD IS GOOD! However staff walked past our table numerous times during and after we had finished our food. Once again they did not clear the table. I only assume the owner/duty manager came to clear the table because we had previously asked him for the plates to be cleared after our starter and again he didnt ask if we enjoyed our meal or food etc. On arriving we had initially asked for a wine list only to be surprised by the pricing perhaps a little high. Cheapest bottle of white wine was a Savinion at £18.90. So we ordered that bottle only for the member of staff to return and said that the no long carry that wine but they have an alternative presenting a bottle of Mud house wine found in most supermarkets for about £8. I asked how much would this wine would be and the waiter checked with management and informed me it would be £23.90 but said they carried another alternative savinion £18.90 and presented us with a bottle of Gallo Savinion blanc found in all supermarkets for about £6. I understand that restaurants need mark ups but serving branded wines for such high prices doesn't sit well for most wine lovers. I would advise purchasing some less known supermarket brand wine or perhaps even a more independent supplier for wines that look less store bought if the restaurant hopes for customers to actually order wine. It was apparent that the restaurant wasnt up to scratch in regards to wine as not one table had a bottle of wine, which is a shame because if wine is good customers can drink it quickly and in some cases order more wine. The restaurant itself is plain and doesn't have much appeal, simplicity can work well in some settings but we felt Pepper lacks in ambiance partly from the lack of personality in the design and layout along with the un enthusiac staff. The front windows were a little dirty creating a gloomy first impression from outside. As stated the food was fantastic, I think the Chef is being let down by the staff and restaurant around he/she/them. For the food only we would love to come back. Especially for the Chat Bombs starter, we both said how imaginative they were and that we had never eaten anything like them they were absolutely delicious in fact all of our food was and so fresh. Sadly I don't think we will be returning given the restaurants overall lack of appeal and absent minded front of house staff. I really feel that the restaurant could be so much more than what we experienced and I leave this review with a heavy heart as stated again and again the food is up there, possibly with some of the award winning Indian restaurants we've had the pleasure...
Read moreThis was my second time at Peppers in Studley, and a very disappointing one. I had been looking forward to taking my staff to this establishment for some time. I'd been earlier this year and thought the food was great. On this visit, the food was good, however the staff, including the manager were extremely rude. It felt like service with aggression. When asked what we would like to eat, we were asked, "What do you want?" Food was plonked on the table from over our heads somewhat slammed down in front of us, some of us had to duck to move out of their way, the staff shouted at each other while they were working on the restaurant floor, making the place very loud. The staff seemed very irritable. There seemed to be an additional issue with one of my team being Indian. At one point the manager sent one of his staff over to ask if my team member was from India or were they Indian British, after having already spoken to my team member exceptionally rudely by the manager; which was a jaw dropping moment. Upon reflection I wondered, perhaps we had been the cause of all this, but there was nothing that we did other than turn up excited to enjoy our Christmas party, we weren't demanding or difficult, or rude ourselves. I wish I'd taken my team and myself somewhere else for our Christmas party. It's a shame I do not have anything positive to say from my recent visit here to all my friends and customers who visit my business, other than the food was ok. I doubt I will be back after having experienced shocking service...
Read morePeppers Has re-opened under new management (they also have Panache 50 in Alcester which I also highly rate) and has been refurbished to a high standard. We were lucky enough to go to the pre-launch tasting evening and I have to see the experience was delightful.
This review is based on that evening alone, but We are very keen to return to the restaurant, so when We do, I'll update this review after experiencing a 'normal' night.
The food was delicious, the presentation faultless. A selection of starters, three mains and a biryani (and a naan)
Starters: Afghani Tikka (for me the star of the plate, delicious), Sheek Kebab and 'Famous' Onion Bhaji served with a nice fresh salad and sauces on the plate to make it look pretty.
Mains: Lamb Kashmiri Rogan Josh, Homestyle Chicken Curry, Tarka Dhal and a dish of Dum Chicken Biryani (with the chicken on the bone). The lamb was my favourite, absolutely bursting with flavour and really tender, although it was all so good We cleared everything.
I really fancied a naan to mop up, and when i asked, the kitchen managed to produce a superb one.
From this first experience, I couldn't give anything but 5 stars, as I said at the beginning, I'll update this review after a second visit and I'd recommend giving...
