Okay, this wasn't a bad stay/meal by any means, but now more than ever I am bothered by not just the odd little thing, but when there are quite a few little things, then I have to say my piece. So let's start with the good, the place was in a good location for reaching Stratford Upon Avon (and Warwick & Leamington Spa too for that matter!), the place and the rooms were tastefully decorated and very clean, which is always a bug bear of mine. The rooms had nice toiletries, and linen & towels were of very good quality. The Sunday roast we had in the pub was generally pretty good, although the beef wasn't as tender as I would like at the price paid. And lastly, the DAY staff were super friendly and helpful - we suspect one was the landlady, who was extremely lovely. And now the negative, sorry. On their own they wouldn't be a big thing, but lots of little things all added up I'm afraid. Firstly the meal on the first night, our Sunday roasts. We didn't get any carrots or courgettes as advertised. You have to pay almost £3 if you want cauliflower (what?!?!?). The veg was extremely bland and unseasoned. The extra Yorkshire I paid for came 5mins after the food did, and was brittle and hollow and inedible. Now I might have said take it back but nobody came into our section once to ask us or the other 2 couples if our food was ok. They didn't even ask when they took away my plate with a whole Yorkshire pudd still sat on the plate looking lonely and cremated. The 2 young staff serving only ever looked animated or interested when they were chatting to each other, not the customers, very poor. The room. Please PLEASE (like with the food) don't advertise something if you're not going to provide it. No hairdryer. And the "Hypnos beds with comfy mattress toppers" was a really hard/firm bed with a mattress protector (pictured), which you will notice is about as 'comfy' as adding a napkin to the mattress. The bathroom also had quite a stench of damp too. The continental breakfast post-lockdown is now a bag to take away with a can of water, a muffin, a breakfast bar and a piece of fruit. This is slightly frustrating because I could have paid £11 less through Booking.com without said breakfast and that would have almost paid for the 2 daily Wetherspoons brekkies we had. Now all these things that dampened my stay could be easily remedied if taken notice of or simply advertised a little better.. I've hardly had any time away this year like most people, so it would have been nice to avoid a lot of these little irritating annoyances. That all being said, I'd still go back to the hotel when back in the area, and hope to be wowed a...
Read moreI booked the restaurant as my partner & I were staying in the area & thought that it looked like a lovely place to spend a Saturday night. We arrived 30 mins before our table booking time & was told that we couldn’t be seated yet. Which was fine, & understandable. So we asked if we could order a drink & wait outside on the seating until our table was ready. We were told no. To be fair, the staff did then find us a table & seated us. The welcome from the staff member was very underwhelming. Not very friendly at all. We ordered drinks which took about 15 mins to arrive, which was ok. They were busy. Another staff member came to take our order. Again, rather frosty & absolutely no effort to make us feel welcome. My partner asked what the soup of the day was. The waitress explained that it could be one of three different soups, but that she didn’t think that they had any left. It was 7.15pm. She said that she would go & check. She eventually came back & said that they do have soup but as they were so busy, chef hasn’t got time to prepare it! Our minds were a bit boggled by this. All a bit odd! We decided against starters & my partner said which main he wanted. But, they didn’t have any. So this was a really disappointing start. I could see the waitress continue to give menus to other tables but clearly wasn’t advising them that two popular choices which feature on the menu, were not available. My conclusion was that the limited number of staff working were too busy. Which unfortunately resulted in a pretty poor service. I would go as far to say that the communication style that both staff members that we spoke to, was borderline rude & didn’t represent a friendly welcoming service at all. Such a shame as a really...
Read moreGorgeous pub and hotel in an lovely location. We arrived on the Saturday evening and were warmly greeted, by the hostess, at the door. We were promptly shown to our table and given a few minutes to settle in before being asked for our drinks orders. There was a wide variety of food available on the main menu and an abundance of drinks - to suit every need. The service we received on the evening was just perfect - attentive without being overbearing. This was very impressive considering there was not a spare seat in the place! After dinner we moved into the pub area to have a few more drinks before retiring upstairs to our room. The hotel rooms are nicely decorated, modern but with traditional features. The room was spacious, very clean and had all the amenities we needed for our overnight stay. We were pleasantly woken the next morning by the sound of the church bells. As it was dark when we had arrived the following evening I hadn't realised how lovely the area was. We had breakfast downstairs before setting off. Again the service and food was excellent. The breakfast menu had a wide range of options - lighter dishes as well as the good old full English. All in all our visit and stay at the Kings Head was thoroughly enjoyable and I would not hesitate to stay again! A big thank you to all the staff for the service you gave us...
