We went to the Ship last Friday afternoon. I had booked a table and checked that there was suitable disabled access. I was told to park on the car park and look for a door marked Private. No Access. Getting across the car park was a nightmare as the potholes are craters, in fact I got stuck and had to reverse out of a hole as I couldn't go forward. I located the door but when I opened it the first thing I saw was a massive deep hole in the ground. There was not room to push a wheelchair past it so this entrance was a no no. We went round to the front of the building and I tried to push the wheelchair through the paved area up to the front door. I was having so much trouble that two young' well built guys got up from their table and came to help me. They were having trouble so a third customer came to help. The 3 of them managed it but you can imagine how difficult it was to take 3 strong men to access the building. I found a waiter and told him we had booked a table on the patio. He said we would not be able to get out at the back because of steps. Fortunately my husband can walk a few steps and there was a handrail so he was able to get down them and I carried the wheelchair down. After we had finished eating I went to look for the toilets. There is no disabled toilet and the facilities are all up a steep flight of stairs which I found difficult and quite scary. Leaving the premises we decided the best bet was to attempt to get out at the rear by going up to the hole in the ground then my husband would stand up and hold onto the wall. I would then take the wheelchair back down the passageway, up the steps, through the pub and outside across the front, round the back, across the car park and pick him up by the hole. As we were starting this the waiter appeared and came down the passageway with us. He held onto my husband and manoevered him past the hole so I could get the wheelchair past him and pick him up again. The waiter was as helpful as he could be but I should not have been told that the premises are suitable for disabled so if you have any disability don"t visit this pub. It was closed for refurbishment about 7 years ago but clearly does not conform to present...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMe and my partner was recommended the ship by a few family members and friends so we thought we would give it ago even as we are not from around styl, we also asked our friend to come with.
Firstly as we arrived, we had booked a table in advance and nobody was there to greet or take us to a table, we had to find our own table and ask to sit there. We decided to sit outside.
Second we waited to order drinks in which was a short time before being served, the only good time in the 2 hours we had been here. Ordering food on the other hand was ridiculous, we waited around half an hour for the waiter to come and take our order. Yes Sunday you would think they are busy but there was 3/4 waiters walking around not looking to be doing anything. Eventually we called the waiter over to take the order.. fine.
Thirdly as a chef myself I am aware on food produce and prices. Feta starter sounded lovely so I ordered, around 20 minutes later it arrived as 3 small cubes of feta cheese, a few pomegranate seeds 1 small cherry tomato in half and no sign of honey. False advertisement clearly and definitely not worth £8. Anyways 2 mouthfuls of that later we had finished and also the 2 small tacos which my boyfriend had was also not worth £8 each. We then waited for starter plates to be cleared for around 20 minutes (Horrific customer service) Then eventually my boyfriend told the waitress to take the plates away as we was starving!
Then the main courses around 40 minutes later after the starters eventually came and I was shocked to see as I ordered a mixed Sunday roast that the pork meat was a pork scratching, the beef was so so dry as was the roasties. The gravy was not a hearty gravy just a bistro and water job. Very disappointed. I understand as I usually work Sundays myself (this being a day off in a long time) in my place of work it does get tiring and it is a long day of repetitive orders I do understand, but to get to half 4 and this be the food you provide itās not good.
Overall I wouldnāt recommended, and I was really looking forward to it. Shocking customer service and...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIf youād like to experience the worst customer service possible then this place is for you, I dined here with 3 family members 2 Sundays ago and received the worst service Iāve ever experienced, we were literally ignored all night from the second we arrived, 30 minutes after being seated nobody had even come to take a drinks order, we had to get up and go looking for someone every single time we wanted to order the next course or even to ask for the plates to be taken away, even after clearly seeing we had got up on several occasions it didnāt occur to anyone that somebody should come round there and start serving, nor was an apology offered, to top it off the food wasnāt up to scratch, the beef on the roast was very fatty, roast potatoes were burned aswell as some other issues, we didnāt even have chance to complain as nobody ever came to the table, we ended up paying the bill on the way out, overall a terrible experience but to make it even worse i received an email asking for feedback so I outlined these concerns and received a reply from Nicci who asked for my phone number and promised to call me to apologise and get to the bottom of the issue, itās now 2 weeks later, I have received no phone call and I sent a follow up email 2 days ago which has been completely ignored, such a shame that the customer service has slipped to such a level as I have previously enjoyed meals here but itās safe to say I will not be returning and wouldnāt recommend...
