Bellinis — Restaurant in Sunderland

What a disappointment this restaurant was. Five of us went for a Christmas work lunch and all regretted it. The starters were good (potato skins, muscles, garlic mushrooms) but the main courses were dreadful and we all had upset stomachs afterwards. One colleague was unable to eat his Bolognese as it was too salty and had an odd flavour. The two lasagnes were also seriously salty. The chicken breast was small and swamped in sauce though the veg was good. The veg pizza was ok, a soggy bottom but ok. The waitress asked about the meals & the saltiness was reported. It was evident my colleague had hardly touched his meal & the lasagnes were only half eaten. The waitress made no comment (or apology) & there was no amendment made to the bill. I was happy to pay as I'd eaten half the pizza and took the rest home but it didn't get eaten as I was so queasy once home. Three adults and one child. We used to come here quite often for Italian and the food and service was always very good but we haven't been for a while. Today we thought we'd try the Sunday lunch. What a completely different experience to what we remember. £14.95 for Sunday lunch and what a disappointment. Sliced supermarket sandwich beef, a few boiled very bland vegetables with zero seasoning and the smallest bit of lumpy mash, even the gravy was flavourless.

The service was also very disappointing, the drinks order was incorrect, the staff didn't ask how the meal was and did not speak or make eye contact the whole time. My first visit to Bellini's and wasn't a bad experience. The place is quite noisy which made conversation between the four of us difficult and you sometimes couldn't hear what the waiting staff were saying. However it is a very busy restaurant so this was to be expected.

Food was decent quality but I wouldn't call it exceptional, it was just good. 🍝 Maybe because what I ordered you couldn't make special or vastly different from other Italian restaurants, so that's my fault. The others in the group enjoyed what they had and said the desserts were fab! 🍰

One big selling point for Bellini's is the great Gluten free dishes both pizza and pasta.
