Just Fabulous! This evening I dinned at Eastern Oriental and had a wonderful experience. The staff were extremely caring and attentive especially the kind gentleman in charge. Our starters came out quickly and were absolutely delicious! The mains were also incredible and packed with flavour! When I visited the restaurant there was a rather loud baby that was bothering many customers, I noticed the staff politely asking the mother if she was able to calm the baby down. After over half an hour the baby was still loudly crying and was very negatively impacted our table and others experience. I noticed the staff went back over to try and explain to the family that they may need to leave if the child continue to cry so uncontrollably. This seemed fairly appropriate for the restaurant to do as many people had asked to be moved away from the family but couldn't due to the restaurant being at full occupancy. I was then very shocked that the family decided to try and stand up and leave in reaction to this! They then very loudly exclaimed they weren't happy to pay the bill after the owner gave them multiple discounts as an apology for making them feel 'unwelcome'. It really upset me seeing a family treat a small business with such disrespect when in reality you should know how your child will behave in a restaurant setting. Once the family left I could see how upset the staff and owner had become over the situation as it was very clear they weren't being malicious but in fact trying to create the best environment for everyone to enjoy a tasty dinner. I also know for a fact that this restaurant is child friendly as Ive taken my nieces and nephew here multiple times and never had an issue, but they have never disrupted a fully booked restaurant for over 30 mins! I would highly recommend this restaurant to everyone and all families with children that understand the behaviour expected in ANY restaurant. Also my personal favourite/recommendation is the duck! its...
Read moreWe found this highly rated eat all you can Chinese/ Asian restaurant disappointing with its fast turn around and high levels of MSG. The restaurant itself is located in what appears to be an old pub and has good parking. It is nicely decorated with a distinct Asian theme and interesting water feature and bridge by the entrance. Tables are a little crammed in and close together, but overall the noisy atmosphere was bearable and the service quick. We found the main problem here was the quality of the food, which was really lacking with dishes containing high levels of salt and MSGs. Very few quality ingredients are used with most of the food served having a distinct factory processed food taste. Service was also extremely rushed and staff served food extremley quickly constantly demanding you order the next course. For the restaurant, eating quickly means customers fill up faster eating less food, but does not make for a relaxing enjoyable meal. The menu is well written with a wide range of dishes from all accross Asia, but none of the dishes served were outstanding or lived up to expectations. Value for money (on the other hand) cannot be faulted at this restaurant as its reasonable priced and you can eat all you like. For those impressed with quantity rather than quality I can see why it gets so many rave reviews. Having spent time in China and many other parts of Asia I can honestly say the food here is a far cry from the amazing food that Asia has to offer and will be a disappointment to any real discerning customer.
Eastern & Oriental restaurant is designed for the British consumer (not authentic) so if you enjoy this type of great value English interpretation of Asian food you are going to love...
Read moreDOES NOT cater for vegetarians! Awful food & service would avoid! Such a shame, parents 50th wedding anniversary dinner ruined. Extremely slow service, wasn’t able to cater for a non fussy vegetarian! Not 1 main dish on the menu for a veggie, waiters had to ask their manager what was vegetarian, ended up with 2 bits of broccoli & some pak choi, not even any noodles or rice as meat put in everything despite asking. Plates not changed between courses, cutlery not replaced. Half of the mains selected not arriving and portions served not catering for the amount of people at the table. Drinks flat and watered down. Very slow running water in both toilets which is off putting from a hygiene perspective. I did politely query the bill as £27 for 2 bits of broccoli & pak Choi, not even in a sauce is extortionate and would expected to pay £7 max as it was like eating a side, actually left hungry! was told it’s a set price, waiter got very rude with my ask and said I should have been more clear, blaming me for lack of food received and then when my husband stepped into question what he just said, he quickly switched and said the waiters should have been more clear and English wasn’t his first language. We both know what he said. If this was al a carte you would be paying half of the price for food received. In contrast went to the Ivy Asia previous week, same amount of people, service impeccable and when any food didn’t arrive without question taken off the bill without asking! And bill was near on the same amount! Shows how over priced it was. Such a shame as been previously been years ago...
