No.15 Chobham — Comfort, Craft, and Quiet Confidence
There are restaurants that shout for attention, and there are those that simply let their food do the talking. No.15 Chobham belongs firmly in the latter camp — a quietly confident dining room tucked in the heart of Surrey that knows exactly what it’s about: refined, unpretentious cooking and a sense of place.
On Saturday night, the room glowed with soft amber light, a low hum of conversation threading between tables. Service was easy and assured — attentive without hovering. The menu reads like a love letter to British produce handled with French precision.
The evening began with scallops served on a truffled celeriac purée, offset by shards of apple and slivers of celeriac. It was a plate that managed balance: richness against freshness, earthiness against sea. Each bite was clean yet indulgent — the kind of dish that demonstrates real confidence from the kitchen.
The main course, a 220g fillet steak, arrived seared to a perfect crust and blushing pink within. It came with thick-cut chips, a roasted tomato, and a flat mushroom — all impeccably seasoned. The Béarnaise sauce was the star: silky, tangy, unapologetically rich, the sort of sauce that reminds you why French technique still reigns supreme. It’s a steak that doesn’t try to reinvent the wheel — it just makes the wheel spin smoother than you remembered it could.
Dessert came in the form of a cheese board: three carefully chosen, individually garnished varieties with crackers. A quiet finale, yes, but one that suited the meal — unshowy, generous, and grounded. A glass of Malbec tied everything together, its dark fruit and smoke echoing the flavours of the steak and sauce beautifully.
No.15 doesn’t chase trends or play at theatrics. It’s not about foams or fermentations or conceptual dining. Instead, it’s about execution, balance, and a respect for craft. The food here is thoughtful without being precious, elegant without being aloof.
In a landscape crowded with places that seem to have forgotten why we eat out at all, No.15 Chobham delivers something quietly radical:...
Read moreOur local pub for over fifty years so unfortunately had not checked website. Walked across on a lovely evening for quick drink in garden with the dogs too. Drinks ordered at bar and brought out. Then a lady came out and politely told us that the baby was not allowed, we could finish our drinks and leave. My husband did not swear but was amused and said surely a sleeping baby under three weeks old was not a problem or causing a disturbance to the ambience of the garden. We agreed we would drink up and leave. Then the lovely landlady came out to tell us the same and explained that they had previously asked customers to leave and could not make an exception but it was ok for us to finish our drinks. My husband did say again that it was unbelievable that a sleeping baby was banned from the garden. Then apparently it takes three people to tell us. The landlord came out stating it was his pub, his rules and didn't we see the sign on the gate, well no unfortunately we did not. I really couldn't believe the attitude of this man. He said he didn't want to attract the wrong people. My poor daughter was looking forward to a small glass of wine after over nine months and a quiet drink in the lovely garden, well this man spoilt that. I am really pleased the couple have turned this pub around into a really pleasant pub with good clientele but I was naïve enough to think that a babe in pram would be no problem in the garden. As I say we have sat in this garden on occasions for over fifty years so had not checked the website. The sign on the gate actually read, we noted on leaving, "Over 18's only drinking. Over 12's allowed for dining. Smart casual dress. No work wear." I suggest they add "no children or babies allowed on the premises" to make it clearer. We were smart casual dressed, we were over 18 for drinking so we met those rules! Poor baby boy has been banned from a pub at under three weeks old which we were able to laugh about on the way home - wonder how many more times in his life that...
Read moreSo disappointing. Really wanted to love it as a local restaurant but was so disappointing.
Restaurant not busy for Friday lunch and yet we had to ask several times to order both drinks and our courses. What were you doing?
Food was simple rubbish. No flavour, to the dishes. Not seasoned. King prawns starter overcooked and no flavour. Paella was worst I've ever had. Disconstructed paella which is bizarre. So seperated ingredients, no stock, completely flavourless. Politely commented to waiter in the hope they learn. Manager never mentioned anything about our comments. Just handed us the bill at end. Wouldn't have expected any money off just a bit of acknowledgment. We are all cooks in our family so recognise good cooking and to be clear we were v polite and tried to be tactful in comments
We came to celebrate an occasion but sadly left bitter about the whole experience particularly given the price tag.
Perhaps head chef had day off or was ill but whoever was cooking is not up to standard for a restaurant pitching itself in the price bracket.
Nice garden
Sadly won't be coming again despite it...
