A lovely building inside and out but unfortunately you are not made to feel very welcome and the food is disappointing for the price. We had a charcuterie sharing starter which consisted of 2 slices of bread some mixed sliced cured meats, onion marmalade (which is weird to have with just meat) and some wilted dead leaves, its almost like they went to Sainsbury’s and bought a mixed sliced meat pack and chucked that on the plate and thought that’ll be good enough, it was nothing special. My main was a southern fried chicken burger, which is literally a frozen Birds Eye southern fried chicken fillet in a burger, which made me laugh especially because of the price. I have added a picture so you can see how poor it was, barely filled half the bun. The chips I was served where refried, over cooked thin chips that were greasy and not very pleasant. I would have told the staff it was terrible if they came and checked back but they didn’t. One was on her phone behind the bar another was walking around not paying any attention to us and the manager was more worried about polishing this one particular part of the bar. He did share a few glances our way but that was about it, I didn’t see him again after that, I guess he probably found something else to polish as he seemed more worried about someone coming in the next day and making the place look clean. Which in all fairness to him it did look pretty darn clean.
I might pop in for a drink in summer and see if anything has changed. I do believe this could be such an amazing place to go and enjoy a drink and some food but it needs a lot of work and hope you do put some time into it. Seeing as it’s quite out of the way it would be in your best interest to do something which encourages people to return as they will not travel to be served rubbish.
I don’t believe il ever come back to this establishment for food unless they do make changes to the menu and put some decent food and stop shopping at...
Read moreDisappointed and felt discriminated against due to a medical condition
I visited The Frog Pub this afternoon with two friends and had a really disappointing experience. I ordered a fish finger sandwich and simply asked for the lettuce, tomato, and tartare sauce to be removed—not because of allergies, but just because I don't like them.
When I was asked if I had any allergies, I said yes, I have an onion allergy, but that it wasn’t relevant to this dish. Despite this, the server went to get the manager, who told me I wouldn’t be allowed to place my order until I’d seen the allergy list (which I completely understand and was happy to do).
However, I was then told I couldn’t customise my order at all because I had an allergy—even though my request had nothing to do with my allergy. I was told my friend, who doesn’t have any allergies, could have hers made plain, but I couldn’t.
I explained clearly that I wasn’t asking for changes due to allergies, just personal preference, and I felt it was unfair that I was being treated differently simply because I’d disclosed a medical condition.
To me, this felt discriminatory—and under the Equality Act 2010, treating someone less favourably because of a disability or medical condition (including allergies) can count as indirect discrimination, especially when others are allowed to make the same request.
The manager was dismissive, and the whole interaction was uncomfortable. I left feeling singled out and upset when all I wanted was a simple sandwich without bits I don’t like.
I hope the pub will review this policy and offer proper training, so people with medical conditions aren’t penalised or treated differently for things unrelated to...
Read moreVery sad to say that after all the hard work gone into inproving the service here that 1 member of staff had to completely ruin it, i was once again happy to have such a nice local pub that you could proudly recommend to family and friends and if you have alot of international visitors like i do to them to so they could really enoy a nice english pub, however after being diagnosed with an autoimmune condition i have alot of restrictiins which all other eating establishments have been super great at accommadating, except this 1 duty manager at the frog, my simple request not to season the steak with salt and pepper due to a recently discovered pepper allergy was completely denied hiding behind the so called policy of the hall and woodhouse groups of not modiftying the menu, however we have contacts other hall and woodhouse pubs and they said they would be happy to accommodate such a request, as i understand that the grill may have traces which is not an issue, i choose the steak as this is the item on all menus that can be easily prepared without the pepper and the chips or a gluten free option of a starch as i am intolerant to many other things contributing to my chronic illness. All this being said this is what has made it so disappointing that this duty manager was so unaccommadating and so proud to stand behind her protective policy of no modifications to the menu and not ask the kitchen to just not season a steak, due to this as a local resident i can no longer in good conscience recommend the frog to people especially anybody with allergies and this is extremely sad for the locals...
